VEX Raising Prices??

Hi,
I am planning my team's shopping list to the upcoming season in order to have useful parts stock.
Two weeks ago 25# plate sprocket with 32teeth price was 5.99$ and now it is 7.99$
It is annoying that VEX is raising prices a month before build season.
Did you noticed any more prices that are going up?

Re: VEX Raising Prices??

Keep in mind VEX has to make money, just like any other business (unless they are non-profit but I don't believe they are). I don't blame a business for raising prices when they know they'll be able to make more sales.

Re: VEX Raising Prices??

yarden.saa,
We did raise a few prices recently. For the introductory 2013 season, we did our best to price everything as low as possible. We know the FRC market would be wary of new products and wanted to make sure teams would be comfortable giving them a try.

Now for 2014 we've reevaluated several of our products based on 2013 sales, and cost changes for the new year.

I apologize for the inconvenience. We think that we're providing the best value products in the marketplace and hope our customers will agree.

I hope this doesn't affect your shopping list too much.

-John

While higher prices aren't the greatest thing, it's still way better than the competition. Vex Pro products are still the lightest, cheapest, and most robust stuff out there.

Do you have some data to back up your contention that all VEX products are the most robust on the market? No offense meant to VEX: they have great products that we used this past year. I just don't care for blanket statements that aren't accurate. Perhaps it's the engineer in me shining through.

While I don't have data to back this up for all of their products, all the stuff (and the documentation that came with it) we bought from VEX this year was of higher quality than anywhere else. For instance, the hex bearings were centered, the hex shafts were straight, the gears had a great finish, and the ball shifter worked perfectly every time, something which never has happened for a shifter on our team.

Re: VEX Raising Prices??

We also had a great experience with Vex parts for 2013. We used their 30:1 and 100:1 gearboxes, sprockets, hex shaft and bearings.

The quality of the parts were far superior to "the other supplier" additionally, they don't gouge you on shipping like the other supplier......

"The other supplier" has been extremely great to FIRST. I don't mean to offend you but you have no right to down such a great company. Andy and Mark and the rest of the staff are always trying to help teams as well as they can. Plus they don't gouge on shipping, they offer the best prices they can.

VexPro has also matched the performance (quality and customer service) of AndyMark. I hold VexPro in very high regard.

FIRST is fortunate to have such great suppliers! Keep up the good work!

Not to burst your bubble but this is why its important to have a competitive market place. All these things are relative to each other. We get the best by have competitive products available. That is why we have great suppliers.

I work with a supplier that is the only company in the world that can do what they do. Let's just say I have to work with them. They don't make it easy but I got no alternatives.

It depends on our demand to drive the prices accordingly. That is ok. that is how our market system works. At the end of the day it is ok to say "I bought something because it was cheaper." Just as its ok to say "this part is now more expensive." Will I try to haggle, yeah, but is just the nature of our system. End of the day, actions not words drive prices.

Just thought I'd clarify, I'm not talking about andymark. They're another high quality place.

Re: VEX Raising Prices??

This is kind of off topic, but why did Vex discontinue 269 2-wire motors? They are one of the more commonly used motors! That is very bad news to me because I use them in my drivetrains! Their size makes them ideal for small things, and they have good torque, especially when 4 motors are being used (Omni Drive). I'm going to have to redesign many things because of no more 269s
