Website competition???

I've been wondering, is there a website competition this year, and are there any regulations that teams must follow? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My team mentioned an award dealing with communication, which would involve a website. I skimmed through the awards and didn't see it, but I am sortof wondering as well, since I'm the webmaster on our team.

So in answer, I think there is indirectly.

Yes, but It never seems to me that chief delphi uses this website as a way to communicate with its team. Maybe thats hidden or on another page or somthing. My team's website is at the center of our communication and orginization. Like i said, CD probably dose the same but hides it

I think I read it some where that the website competition was only for the west coast regionals. I believe the website competiton is at only the san jose and seattle regionals.

Website Competition on Team 341

On a FIRST e-mail, Team 341 was hosting a website competition for all. They briefly said what there criteria was and everything.

I sent them an e-mail twice before there deadline, Jan. 7. The first once bounced back, the second one supposedly went through, but I haven't received a reply yet. So I don't know what's happening with that.

wow, that's disappointing

That's frustrating, because team 624 has spent the last couple months developing an awesome site (it's not out yet). Our staff sponsor had told us that first was holding a website competition, but I've looked around on the website and there hasn't been anything said about one. This webmaster is getting upset...
If anyone hears anything said about a national website competition, please post a reply.

Canada FIRST competition has Website Competition

It's surprising that there is no Website competition officially sponsored by FIRST considering that Canadian FIRST (http://www.canadafirst.org/) has had a web component for a number of years.

Maybe Microsoft would consider sponsoring an award, since they gave out a free copy of Frontpage with the kit of parts.

Web Site Competition

There are many forums going on that you do not see. It depends upon who you are and what your purpose is. Lets just say that you would be surprised at what is going on behind your back.

One problem our students face is not having computers at home.

Many students access e-mail at the City library or at school ( we just got the internet this year in 20% of the classrooms ). In fact we only got mass computers ( 1 per classroom last year - I installed them).

By most standards we are not a wealthy district!

I totally agree with you. Our school is pretty advanced actually. We have several labs and most classrooms have at least 2 or 3 500+ mhz computers. They believe strongly in this. I know this isn't the same case with many schools and people at home. Our team actually setup a website/information team consisting of about 3 or 4 students. We have calendar dates, meeting days, team e-mails, and other things on a website. This so far has helped a great deal. We also signed every e-mail up with an excellent service Yahoo! provides called Yahoo Groups. This makes an email@yahoogroups.com which forwards to every e-mail on that. This helps us send out important information such as the kickoff date, fundraiser days, problems, and anything else. It is a great service and I think other teams should try this service out. It is very good. Also for districts like the one Mike is talking about above I would recommend having everyone sign-up with a free e-mail to check every 2 or 3 days and use for updates if they dont have an account. For a website ask the county server to set you up with one like ours did.

Wow.....

That's really eye opening....i would have guessed that most schools would have plenty of computers for their students to use...

Also i guess my school has given me a false image cuz we have what seems to be alteast 300 computers (probably more)....

I wondered before about a website contest. Like someone said, I'm sure CD would win it easily. Our site may also be like many others in that we have one site for visitors and one for team members. The visitor site is just about our team and what not and the member one has meeting times and everything on it.
