Pneumatic Sounds
I'm having a hard time finding sound effects online for a pneumatic forklift. There are hundreds of sounds of pneumatic doors - but none that really fit with a forklift raising up and down. If anyone knows of sites that have good royalty sound effects it would be appreciated. I have checked www.flashkit.com and Sound Dogs, as well as a handfull of other sites to no avail.
Thanks |

Why can't you record it yourself?
I'm assuming the animation is of your robot. |

The main problem is that we dont have a microphone with decent recording quality, as well as a good sound card. The other problem is the unacceptable noise level at the shop, which does not allow us to record anything in there, and we cant really take the robot out.

awww man, true that! I'll ask our multimedia teacher tommarrow if he has anything we can use..He can usually pull something out of his...
...Magical bag of tricks of course! If I can, I'll try and work on something (prob won't get off the ground till next year...but If I can get a mic, maybe I'll work on a FirstCadSoundLibrary (Waddaya think Ed? heh). Well, we'll see.... In the meantime, I'll keep my eyes open for yall...Forklift style sounds ya said? Like a pneumatic piston sound more or less? |

Thanks, guys
We'll keep looking too. (actually FirstSoundLibrary is a pretty nice idea... i would be glad to contibute if it will ever be done) As a last resort, we might actually buy a sound sample CD from some companies specializing in movie sound production. But i hope we'll figure out another way. |

Hopefully by tommarow I'll have a couple of sounds. We're using a can of Dust-Off (compressed air) to make some pneumatic sounds. Once thats done, I'll try and post them.

Get creative. Force air through your lips and teeth at a high pressure. There is your pneumatic sound. Run a motor and record that in a secluded area... slide two pieces of metal together... anything that sounds remotely mechanical and you have your forklift. Don't sweat not having the real sound. These kinds of sounds should fit quite nicely. Plus, you can customize them to fit your animation.
Just a suggestion. Good luck. |

Thats sort of what we ended up doing... Although we did record some of the real stuff. The final render (after countless number of previews) of our animation is going to be finished tomorrow, so we can start integrating the sounds into the final video. I hope it all goes well, since sound is a vital part of our storyboard.

Here's our current pathetic sound library I built today with patrick and mark. http://payfoo.com/sounds.aspx Its no where near great (unlike my plans for next year) but if your in a pinch, this and some premiere effecting should do it!
