Annual request: Field Interaction Videos

Hello,

In the past, videos like this one from GUS 228 have been very useful for teams who don't get a field to touch at the kickoff.

FIRST has really stepped up the kickoff last year with their own interaction videos, but I still would be very happy to see videos from teams as well for two reasons:
  1. We can't know for sure that FIRST will release said videos
  2. Even if they do release them, they might miss certain important aspects of the field or game pieces

So if you can manage to get some nice HD footage of the field and post it here (in this thread or a new one), that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
-Leav

Re: Annual request: Field Interaction Videos

3467 is going to step up our recording of the field this year. We will be taking a ton of pictures and getting good videos!

Once we get them processed and uploaded I'll post here on CD so other users can see them.

Is there a registration process for going to the live broadcast? I come up to Manchester every year but I have no idea if you have to get some special invitation or what.

There is no "live" broadcast anymore. Manchester watches the same webcast as everyone else. The only reason to come to Manchester is to meet old friends, go to the training sessions on Friday, go to the Founder's Reception Friday night, and get a brief chance to touch a competition field after the webcast.

Most (if not all) remote Kickoff sites have the low cost version of the playing field, hence the requests for field interaction videos. Rebound Rumble was a good case. The low cost bridge as built in the drawings was too easy to tip, and many teams didn't watch the FIRST field interaction video on how to weight the bridge to calibrate it to behave similar to the actual field element. This caused a fair number of teams to build bridge tipping mechanisms that weren't strong enough to deflect the bridge at competitions, but I'm sure it worked in their shops.

Sometimes, but not necessarily every year, one of our field interaction videos captures a piece of information that helps teams understand how the field and/or game pieces react or interact that isn't apparent from the rules, game animation, kickoff webcast, or other official FIRST resources. I think FIRST saw that there was a lot of interest in our field interaction videos and that is what prompted them to begin producing their own. They have been quite good, too, but we'll continue filming our own videos just in case we capture that "Ah ha" moment.

I had the same thought when I first saw the "official" interaction videos!
And I'm happy to hear that you intend to continue filming them, I'm certain that your videos are helping everyone one who watches them: even if there is no hidden gem, everyone is still benefiting from the walk around to get a better feel for the field.

Re: Annual request: Field Interaction Videos

Team 228's annual field interaction video is uploaded to our team channel on youtube.

If we find any more interesting video of the balls interacting with the goals we'll try to put up a second video.
