Kickoff
I hope everyone is as excited for Kickoff as I am! We’ve got a snowstorm going on right now here in New Hampshire – roads are slippery and many schools are closed – but we’re not letting that slow us down! Final preparations are going smoothly. I’m really looking forward to talking to the teams that come to the Kickoff in Manchester to get their impressions of the game after it’s revealed. And I hope everyone is catching up on their sleep.
White House Film Festival
I’m late to the party on this one, but I just saw this referenced on CD: http://www.whitehouse.gov/filmfestival
This is a film festival/competition for K-12 students for films highlighting STEM activities in US schools. Seems like it would be a great fit for our school-based FRC teams from the United States! The films need to be 3 minutes long or less, just like your Chairman’s Award DVDs.
Couple challenges here according to the rules posted on the site, but you guys love challenges:
- Entries must be submitted by January 29th. Yes, this year, and I’m thinking you might have a few other things you’ll be working on between now and then.
- Entries must ‘have been created on or after November 25, 2013’. Unfortunately, there were no blue boxes following this rule on the White House website explaining what exactly ‘created’ means. Does this mean all filming must have taken place after November 24? That all editing was done after that date? What about any music you might use, does that, too, need to have been created after that date? I’ll admit I like being on the other side of the rules questions for once.
There’s some other fine print on the website you should take a look at if you think you might want to submit.
I encourage you to enter if you think you can squeeze this in – how cool would it be to see an FRC team highlighted on the White House website, or even be invited to a screening at the White House itself? If you are interested, I would bet the resources FIRST friend Paul Lazarus put together to help teams assemble their Chairman’s Award Video would also help in this instance.
