Carpet source?
Where can one obtain FRC carpet?
I haven't been able to find online the type of carpet or where to get it. Is there a source for big dealers like HD, Lowes, and/or is there a standard name/brand for this carpet? |

Re: Carpet source?
The carpet is defined in section 2.2.1 of the 2013 manual.

Re: Carpet source?
As mentioned in last year's manual, the carpet is:
"Shaw Floors, Philadelphia Commercial, Neyland II, 20, 30550, “Ground Pepper”". The carpet for 2012 was a slightly different color, but obviously we don't know for sure until the 2014 manual is released, but it should be the same 'pile' at least. I believe the pile of the carpet is 20 oz/sq yd, so any carpet with that should be similar, if I'm not mistaken. |

Re: Carpet source?
Since carpets aren't used for more than one regional (event though the rest of the field is), you may have some luck contacting your regional director to ask for the carpet after the regional. I know quite a few teams who've had success with this. Granted, this doesn't help your for the upcoming build season.

And it's not a problem. For what we're looking to do, the carpet is an investment that's important. We don't mind shelling out for it - we plan to keep it for a while ![]() |

Re: Carpet source?
Perhaps, but 'used once' carpet can be free (that's what we did). you only need to ask.
A great way to secure it for certain would be to volunteer your team to help break down the field after a local regional or district. The folks running the event would be tickled pink (pink!) to have the help. |

Re: Carpet source?
We got our carpet from the 2008 Minnesota regional (if I remember correctly), so I can vouch for asking the regional planning committee.

Re: Carpet source?
Several years ago (<2008, probably more like 2006 or something), I believe 857 helped clean up after an event, and we got to keep at least some of the carpet. We've been using it ever since.

Re: Carpet source?
Interesting.
Why don't Regional Directors keep the carpets? Why spend $1,400 every year? |

Re: Carpet source?
$1400 is tiny money when you consider that a damaged (= used) carpet might cost a team a championship. New carpet is new, and always the same.
A typical regional might cost 6 figures to run: a number as small as 1400 is almost negligable. To put it in perspective: That's on the same order of magnitude as the crew's T-shirts... |

In the larger scope, someone may be able to better speak to this, but regionals can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to put on. $1400 of carpet (that might be donated anyway) is one of the smaller expenses. Plus it improves area teams to have the carpet circulating for offseason events or week zero events in future years. |
