Top Goal Lighting

Hi All,

After finally realizing that a strip of the lights used in the top goal would run you $400 - $800 for a strip. I went out looking for something somewhat similar but more economical.

I looked up the specs for the lights and they are 6.5 candela. I dug up these LEDs and think they might be close enough for those of us trying to utilize the lights for vision systems.

Re: Top Goal Lighting

From what I understand....the top LED's aren't too helpful. The vision targets are the left and right seem to be more helpful.

I agree. Plus, as the events roll on, some of the lights are bound to go out and such, so I wouldn't rely on it for targeting.

Re: Top Goal Lighting

The vision targets are very helpful because you have control over their hue by your choice of illumination source. But the vision targets are at each end of the alliance wall, so there might be circumstances when they are not visible to a robot.
There should also be at least a letter I shaped set of lights illuminated towards the center of the alliance goal any time an alliance has the ball during a cycle. While this will be less reliable than the vision targets it might provide an additional indication for added robustness.

Do you have evidence to support that statement?

Only 1/3 of the LED's will be lit when there is only 1 assist. I would think that this would disrupt your aiming if you were taking a shot during that time. I'm not a programmer and I have only a loose understanding so this might not be true but it seems like that would be a problem depending on how your code is written.

Think of the redicle down a gun site. You don't need it to cover the whole scope to use it.

1/3 of the lights form an I with a double wide column.

*I also want to note that I meant this thread to be more a discussion of replicating field lighting as opposed to how one may use it...

Re: Top Goal Lighting

I think that the goal lighting should be easier to track, however, it won't be as I doubt anyone is going to pay for a replica to test with and I don't think vision is going to be developed at a competition.
