2014 Field is 24.5 feet wide

I came to a sobering revelation today while working with my field assembly lead. The interior driveable surface that has traditionally been 54x27 is narrower in 2014 by 2.5 feet for a 54x24.5 layout. It may not sound like a lot, but I just wanted the rest of the community to be aware of the difference.

Re: 2014 Field is 24.5 feet wide

Yep, it seems like they did this due to the new Human Player Barriers on each side of the field.

Re: 2014 Field is 24.5 feet wide

Well this year you don't have large structures or any obstacle at all really that is getting in the way of the robot, besides other robots. Don't have to go around anything, so it makes sense.

Interesting, since the game animation said it was 25'x54' I hadn't gotten around to reviewing the field drawings, so now I'll make sure to be extra diligent with verifying dimensions.

Actually, the game animation says that it is an "approximately 25 by 54 foot field": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5zWzICG5to

Hmm. I assumed the "approximate" phrasing was due to the +/- 4 inch tolerance on the field. Again, why I need to look at the field drawings.

Re: 2014 Field is 24.5 feet wide

More specifically the manual says: The FIELD for AERIAL ASSIST is a 24 ft. 8 in. x 54 ft. carpeted area, bounded by and including the GUARDRAILS, ALLIANCE WALLS, and rear faces of the LOW GOALS.
