Now that's a lot of power!

How's accuracy looking for scoring high goals?

Re: Team 2383 Shooter Prototype Video

Nice build for a proto-type!

How wide is it at the widest point?
Can you fit within the starting dimensions? Or do you have some extending mechanism?

It is powered by 1 CIM motor on each side (so two total) through a belt internally.

We haven't done a lot of comprehensive testing, but it seems pretty accurate from about 8 feet away.

The shooter is about 28" from end to end, but with the wheels the widest point is about 34".

To fit this inside the robot when starting, we decided on a circular base with a 35" diameter.

Oops! Probably a good idea!

It is about 38 lbs, I think. But that is just a base frame and shooter.

Could you post a couple of close-up photos* of what the ball looks like after it's been through the wringer a few times?

* preferably with a camera that has a macro setting so the focus is sharp

Here's a photo of the damage. (Hopefully the quality is good enough! I had to take everything from my phone yesterday, sorry.) That's tape over some of the more noticeable gashes. No pops yet though.

We've been using 6" treaded wheels and I noticed little pieces of the blue fabric sticking from each contacting edge of the wheel. I'm hoping that we try the smooth gray wheels from Andymark this week, and that causes less damage. Plus right now, the CIMs are just going full power as we haven't done the electrical/programming yet, so hopefully at a lower speed it will be better too.

Re: Team 2383 Shooter Prototype Video

Are you using pneumatics to push the ball into the shooter? And how do you plan to load the robot?

Yeah, there's a pneumatic piston in the back. The loading is done by just putting the wheels in reverse at a low speed and lowering the shooter to the ball.

Re: Team 2383 Shooter Prototype Video

If you're going to lower the shooter to the ball, will you raise up to one pre-defined height to shoot, or do you want to try for variable angles so as to shoot from a wider range of distances?
