Team 2363 ball pickup prototype

There are lots of shooter prototype videos floating around out there. No so many pickup prototypes. Here is ours.

Re: Team 2363 ball pickup prototype

Good one!

Have you tried more ball compression, a slower collector wheel speed, and a full bumper in the front? It sounds like the wheels are slipping a bit on the ball and the ball is slipping a bit on the 80/20 between your bumpers.

Re: Team 2363 ball pickup prototype

Nice Ball Picker-Upper but I was wondering how high you can lift the ball with that? (to get on top of the shooter)

If your shooter comes down into your robot you don't need the ball to get very high.

Re: Team 2363 ball pickup prototype

I've found that two of the Bot in Three Days teams have some good examples of collectors that you could draw from for design.

Yes, yes, and yes.

Now that we've proven the concept, we can begin iterating to make it better.

We created something very similar. we have found we can move the ball a good 15" off the floor with this setup.

If you come to a FRC event to see a robot competition, you are missing the point.

Do not neglect to prototype your concepts. We learned some things that aren't so obvious just by looking at those designs.

One thing in particular to look for... not many of the RI3D robots demonstrated their ball pickup capability with legal bumpers installed. (This might have changed in the past couple days since I looked.)

This is true. However Ri3D 1.0 did mock up front bumpers and it didn't cause an issue with the intake in testing. It just didn't make our videos, in hindsight maybe it should have. One other note is that if you have the wide front configuration, there is a fairly large allowable gap between the two bumper segments.

To your first point, I agree! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE prototype designs you plan to implement! Andrew Rudolph said it best, "You don't have to prototype everything, just the things you want to work."

Re: Team 2363 ball pickup prototype

What type of motor are you using to drive your wheels? Also what speed are you spinning at?
