No cRIO communication!

Hey, on the 2014 labview software, there is a cRIO imaging tool, that we cannot get to connect to the 4 slot cRIO. We changed all the IP addresses to the correct ones (computer to 10.8.76.5 or .6), we have a full battery, tried 4 computers, tried hooking through the game piece and directly, were out of options.
I have read many of these problems, but none have worked. We can get to the game piece with the internet and entering the IP address, 10.8.76.1, but not the cRIO.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Re: No cRIO communication!

Is your computer's IP address set correctly? The easiest way is to launch the FRC Dashboard and have it automatically configure your local network with your team number.

Did you disable the computer firewall?

Re: No cRIO communication!

What do you mean when you say "game piece"? I'm pretty sure you aren't talking about the Sportogo exercise ball. The D-Link router would be my first guess, except you're talking about getting to it with the internet, which doesn't make sense to me.

Your computer's IP address sounds right. The two big things to check are 1) make absolutely completely certain that you don't have a firewall running, and 2) make absolutely completely certain that the only network adapter enabled on your computer is the one connected to the cRIO.

Re: No cRIO communication!

Are you able to ping the cRIO? The IP address is 10.xx.yy.2.

Re: No cRIO communication!

We had a multitude of cRIO imaging problems and here are the solutions that were recommended:
-Use a crossover cable and go directly to the cRIO (though it should be an Auto-MDIX port)
-Connect through a switch
-Change the IP of your laptop to 10.xx.yy.8 instead of .5 or .6
-Power cycle EVERYTHING
-Hold the "Reset" button for five seconds (the status light will change to solid orange) then wait for it to tun off, then hold the "Reset" button for five more seconds. This causes the cRIO to do an IP Reset. Then open command prompt and type "ping 0.0.0.0" and if that doesn't work, switch your laptop's IP address to 169.254.0.1 and then open your cRIO imaging tool and see if it can now detect your device
-If all else fails, try a new laptop because that has solved problems for us in the past even though they're exactly the same... Who knows why?

Hope this helped, FIRST Team 1024

Smile Re: No cRIO communication!

Our team's head programmer had two things to bring to the table when I asked him this for you; both were problems that we had ourselves, so see if it may help!

Method 1) Make sure your firewall is down, as this can hamper communications;

Method 2) Are your laptops running Windows 8? Even the most up-to-date programs that FRC uses for the cRIO's aren't compatible in the slightest with Windows 8, to the point that you can't even connect to the cRIO from a computer with Windows 8. If you're using a computer with that OS, then to be frank, you're plum outta luck with that one...

I hope for your and your team's sake that it's just a firewall issue, but if it is because of possible Windows 8 incompatibility, then I wish you luck for finding a fix to the problem. Keep us all here informed if any of that fixes it or not, I hope you can do so soon!

Best of luck out there!

Re: No cRIO communication!

I'm not sure where the Windows 8 info is coming from. Windows 8 was explicitly tested during development and beta program. Can you point to any documentation or experience that leads you to that conclusion?

Re: No cRIO communication!

Thanks guys, we did a lot of those things, but I read a few new things I can try. I am on windows 8.1, but we used 4 different computers, 3 with windows 7. Thanks again!
