Ordering a New ClassMate for Veteran E12 Harddrive Option Choices?

http://ctl.net/2go-classmate-pc-e12-es10is2-first

Does anyone have any advice for selecting the hard drive I should get with a new classmate we would like to purchase for our team?

I can't seemed to find any information on the specs of the rookie classmate to base my decision. Being a computer geek, I would select a solid state hard drive, but I am not sure if the FIRST supplied IMAGE file will work if I select the SSD hard drive option, due to bios level recognition of a SSD hard drive verses a traditional hard drive.

Has anyone purchased a new classmate recently, and installed the image file and how did that process go?

There is an option to upgrade your memory from 2 GB to 4 GB, that seems like a no brainer, but the hard drive might be picky loading from an image file. Being that it has to load the OS files because these new classmates don't come with operating systems.

The hard drive options for FIRST E12 classmate are as follows:

Hard Drive / Solid State Drive (SSD) *
Seagate 250GB 5400RPM Sata 2.5" NB Hard Drive +$0.00
Seagate 320GB 5400RPM Sata 2.5" NB Hard Drive +$15.13
Seagate 500GB 5400RPM Sata 2.5" NB Hard Drive +$56.07
Seagate 500GB 7200RPM Sata 2.5" NB Hard Drive +$69.42
Kingston 60GB SSD Drive (V+200 Series) +$45.39
Kingston 90GB SSD Drive (V+200 Series) +$70.31
Kingston 120GB SSD Drive (V+200 Series) +$76.54
Kingston 240GB SSD Drive (V+200 Series) +$169.10
Kingston 480GB SSD Drive (V+200 Series) +$431.65
Intel 60GB SSD Drive (520 Series) +$78.32
Intel 120GB SSD Drive (520 Series) +$124.60
Intel 180GB SSD Drive (520 Series) +$189.57
Intel 240GB SSD Drive (520 Series) +$255.43
Intel 480GB SSD Drive (520 Series) +$525.99

I have to tell you after imaging thirteen classmates this weekend at our Quick Build, the E12 classmate is light speed fast compared to the E11 and E9 classmates.

I don't have the hard drive spec for the KOP E12 classmate, but any rookie should be able to tell you

The FIRST Kit E12 Classmate has a 250GB hard drive.

Even though I'm not a rookie...

Re: Ordering a New ClassMate for Veteran E12 Harddrive Option Choices?

Mark,

Thanks!

Wonder if anyone has tried loading the image file onto a solid state hard drive. I guess better safe than sorry for the image loader to recognize a solid state drive or not.

I did find it just now the E11 on Andymark lists the specs at 250 GB too.

Re: Ordering a New ClassMate for Veteran E12 Harddrive Option Choices?

Anyone tried changing memory in 2013 E12. Ours has 1GB, I just ordered 4GB. I've upgraded SODIMM/equiv. in other laptops before. I'm hoping E12 is similar. Also, anyone found good tutorial (prefer video) for opening case properly to do the upgrade?
