Yeah that was on carpet. It was the carpet in the school, which is pretty similar to the competition carpet.

How much does your current robot weigh? What gear ratio?
A light drivetrain will tend to 'burn out' the wheels on carpet when starting from a stand still or changing direction. This is not so much the case when it's weighed down with mechanisms and bumpers. If you are using a low gear ratio (by which I mean: slow top speed) and lots of power (you mentioned 3 CIM gearboxes) the effect is more noticeable... I suspect that slipping the wheels on carpet would give the accelerated wear you're seeing. |

Can you describe your drivetrain setup? what kind of weight were you testing with? This is pretty concerning, we just ordered a few sets and were hoping they would be better than the original Versawheels we used last year, which wore to almost nothing after 10 matches.

Its a 6WD WCD, but currently only the center wheel is driven. Its geared to about 10.5 FPS, and weighs 75 lbs. We did notice it was slipping, only if we went full forward and full back, which we didnt do too often.

I can respond with "that's not a lot"
Even after the nubs are gone there is still a significant amount of tread before you hit plastic. We had 973 run them at an offseason competition and practice and estimate around 2 regionals of use out of a set including some practice. These were designed to be a more consistent grip level for the entire life of the wheel and last longer than the other 4" VersaWheels with W tread (depending how often you spin your wheels). They aren't meant to last forever though, as we still wanted a decent level of grip. -Aren Last edited by Aren_Hill : 28-01-2014 at 01:04. |

This is probably also a factor, half the weight is on non-driven wheels. You should address this before you do much more driving.

Yeah we plan on chaining the rest up when we get actually get the sprockets. Maybe it was spinning more then I thought they were. I guess I'm just used to the AM wheels, were you can spin them for days and they don't wear much at all. Nobody on our team has every used anything but the AM kit wheels, whether it was the old or new style.
