Kinect cannot connect to DS

Hello,

We're trying to connect our Kinect to our DS laptop. The physical LED on the Kinect is blinking green, but we have issues getting it to be recognized in our Driver Station program.

We're using Windows 7 64 bit. The Kinect SDK is 64 bit version (installed in Program Files), and the FRC Kinect Server is 32 bit (installed in the Program Files (x86) folder).

We tried these combinations:
  • Kinect SDK 1.8 with the 2013 FRC Kinect Server. See the picture attached for the output under these circumstances.
  • Kinect SDK 1.5 with 2013 Kinect Server. Same as the above, but with a different Kinect version.
  • Kinect SDK beta 2 with 2012 Kinect Server. Diagnostics LED is grey, and Kinect version says it's "Not connected".

With the third option, we could get a picture of the Kinect using the Kinect Skeletal Viewer. Later versions do not include the Skeletal viewer software so we're not sure about it in those versions.

Does anyone have an idea?

Re: Kinect cannot connect to DS

I just tried the Kinect with the 1.6 SDK and the 2013 Kinect Server. The Kinect LED remained red on the driver station diagnostics tab, but the skeletons were detected on the dashboard. The kinect was also green on the operation tab and showed a skeleton detected. I have not tried yet to see if the data was transmitted to the robot.

Re: Kinect cannot connect to DS

Does the "Kinect" under Versions say anything, or is there anything other than
Code:
The Kinect is not communitcating to the DS.
1. Check that the Kinect is powered and connected to the computer.
2. Check that the drivers and server are installed and up to date.
when you hover over the red dot?

Also, this document has some basic troubleshooting. (Mainly have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again)

Hopefully that helps a bit.

We're having this same problem. According to Kevin OConnor, the maintainer of the FRC Kinect Server, as long as you have a version number on the diagnostics screen the kinect is working fine. The Kinect and Enhanced IO LED's are broken on that screen.

Re: Kinect cannot connect to DS

I am having problems with the kinect on the dashboard and the driver station. I have the 2013 Kinect Server downloaded and when I open the Kinect Server Debug Mode I see the camera image and the skeleton just fine. However, the problem arises when I attempt to view the skeleton on the 2014 frc dashboard because there is no tab on top of the camera image asking me which image do I want to show, varying from the camera image, kinect skeleton or the variables tab. In addition, the kinect light under the diagnostics tab on the driver station is red but I get an IP address and the kinect itself is appearing green on the operation tab on the driver station.

Re: Kinect cannot connect to DS

As bspymaster said, the kinect light is broken on the diagnostics tab, but the indicators on the operation tab is working. The error is noted here: http://wpilib.screenstepslive.com/s/...d-known-issues

The Kinect skeleton display was removed from the front panel in the 2014 default dashboard. However, the Kinect Skeleton VIs are still included in the the project, so you just have to use them. You can refer to the 2013 dashboard project for how to use them.

Re: Kinect cannot connect to DS

My understanding is that there isnt a way to view the kinect skeleton on the 2014 Dashboard.

Is there a way to use the Smartdashboard or Smartdashboard 2.0 to view the kinect skeleton ?

Or should I just use the 2013 Driver station and Dashboard to view the kinect skeleton ?

The 2014 Dashboard is both an executable, and a LabVIEW project which you can customize. As I mentioned, it is not that hard to modify the 2014 Dashboard to re-implement the Kinect Skeleton. You could write a plugin for either SmartDashboard, but then you'd be starting from scratch, rather then just copying and pasting a few VIs.

It is not legal to use the 2013 Driver Station. There are no rules against using the 2013 Dashboard.

Re: Kinect cannot connect to DS

Attempting to resurrect the zombi...

We're trying to get the DS and the Kinect to communicate using the 2014 APIs.

We've installed the x86 2.0 Kinect SDK from Microsoft(running on a 32 bit windows visita laptop) and the latest Kinect software (version 6 - http://firstforge.wpi.edu/sf/sfmain/...1415060657149). When we plugged the connect in the first time the drivers didn't install correctly because we hadn't installed the SDK first. After unplugging and replugging the Kinect all the drivers reported they were correctly installed.

The green light on the Kinect now comes on, but the DS doesn't show the version string on the right side. It says "Not Connected".

Feels like we're at least 1/2 way there at least, but missing something. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
