Re: Lettermans

AST Sports is a great place to get patches for Letter winners. They are great and everything they do is done right in the back of their shop.

If you are in the area (Monticello, MN) they will even give you a tour of the shop - pretty amazing to see all the gear for schools and organizations from all over the country!

Re: Lettermans

Thanks everyone! It really helps getting all of these ideas. I was talking with a teammate and we were thinking of having a 50 hr work requirement, 3.0 GPA, attend the competition, 10 hrs of community service (with or without the team), participate in the FLL tournament we volunteer at. I'm not too sure about adding a fundraising requirement right now because our mentor stressed it's not our job to do it yet, but I do see it being a factor for the team later on in its years.

Our students qualify for a letter if they get 100 hours in during build season. And this year, we have a snazzy new pin for them...

Re: Lettermans

Our Team started Letterman this year. We have several catagories the students must fulfill to earn their Letter. Out of 64 members - this year 24 earned their Letter. The Letter is really nice - a big S for Southington High School with a gold FIRST symbol on it.
We are Team 195 - Cyber Knights from Southington, CT

Re: Lettermans

Cyber Blue started this year, and our first "lettering" students will receive them at our banquet this week.

The team is considered an academic team at the school, so it is an academic letter for Robotics. Students can buy an academic jacket and put it on there.

Basic requirements are 2 years team membership, attendance percentage, mandatory meeting attendance (kick-off, open house), meet all team membership requirements, competition attendance and a GPA requirement.

We went with 2 years to be consistent with most other lettering requirements in the school.

Since this is the first year, we "grandfathered" seniors who would have qualified with the 2 year requirement svn though we just started this year.

Re: Lettermans

For Team 60 our requirements to letter are identical to our requirements to travel:
60 Shop Hours
60 Hours at the Shop during Build Season
20 Hours of Community Service
A "C" or higher in all Classes
3 Business Presentations
$400 of Arizona State Tax Credits

Being a Community Team, the jackets will have the school's letter (Mine is a K for Kingman High School) as well as having Robotics sewn in to the letter or an FRC patch on a shoulder.

Re: Lettermans

I know Team 2340, Xcentrics in Rochester, NY, has a Varsity Letter system. They actually posted a picture to their Facebook today of their students receiving their letters.

Re: Lettermans

A lot (maybe most?) teams in MN have a lettering system now. There's even an official letter patch provided by the State High School League for Robotics - the recognition from the High School League really is huge for us!
