Chairmans 2014

Now Chairman's Submission is coming upon us. Since this is our first year we were wondering what all do we need to submit and when? I believe the video is due after the date but the Executive Summary is due this thursday and so is the essay? If someone could clarify that would be great

The Executive Summary and the essay are due Thursday. The interview and video are the second day of the regional you submit for the award at.

I was looking through the 2014 rules and was a bit confused. Has what FIRST calls the executive summary changed this year? It looks like that is for its own unique award?

It has changed, but it's not its own award. The prompts have changed significantly -- they now emphasize other FIRST programs way more than they did in the past. If you're a student award submitter, you can look in STIMS. They're all there.

Re: Chairmans 2014

Just a few tips for Chairman's. We submitted for the first time last year. Cannot believe how much better and smoother this year went. Just know that it'll get better.

1. Strongly suggest submitting on Wednesday night. Servers can get weird on Thursday morning so make sure you at least have SOMETHING in STIMS on Wednesday night, just in case.

2. The Executive Summary (12 short answers), Essay (10,000 characters), and pictures are due by Thursday at 12pm ET.

3. Ask your mentor to go to the team summary in TIMS. There is a "Judge's Info" section. Make sure you fill those short answers in too. All judge's will see those too.

4. The speech, interview, and video are due at your Regional. Make sure you read the rules on the video. We messed up last year and had it in the wrong codec or whatever which made it super choppy. Anyway, just make sure you read the rules.

Hope that helps! Probably more advice than you wanted. Haha.

Good luck and have fun!

Re: Chairmans 2014

I've actually been really confused, is there a character limit for each of the executive summery short answer questions? I thought it was 500 characters but reading through the rules I'm not sure now.

The limit is imposed in STIMS, though not mentioned in Section 6 of the manual.

Your head coach actually can't see it -- only student award submitters can. Have your coach designate you as such and then take a look -- I can send you a screenshot of what it looks like if you want.

Re: Chairmans 2014

I was referencing the Judge's Info. It's a different section from the whole "Chairman's Award" experience but the judge's still read it. After the head coach logs in, they click on "Team Summary" (it's usually glowing green).

Scroll down past Team Info, Event Registration, Kit and Kickoff. It's the fourth section down. It's called "Judge's Info".

There's a part called "Team Essays" That's where you fill in a few more super short answer sections. There is also a section to upload a robot picture.

It's not a big deal. I mean, if you're still working on Chairman's, don't worry about it. Just saying that it's a small thing that might make a difference if you have the time.

I hope that helps.

Re: Chairmans 2014

I realized last night that the Judge Info or now called the Team Essays were due Jan. 9. For the first time in 8 years, we missed it.

Did everyone out there realize the drastic date change? In prior years they were due after or very close to ship.
