We got our crate out of the basement of our build center today. It has a hand dandy ramp that we can roll stuff into...such as people sitting in rolling chairs. Today, I found myself in the crate sitting in a rolling chair, while being spun around at very high speeds by another team member.

we pack all the students in the crate as were a poor team and cant afford planes and buses. we drill lots of tiny holes to make the crate lighter and it does help with the students breathing if they dont do it often.

we ususally just pack the robot and a few small minor items. we tie the robot and any item in the crate down. so we don't need to use bubble wrap with takes up considerable and valuable space away

Well our robot sucks and this thread is about crates so I will talk about our crate.

Our crate team this year went crazy mad and made a crate where the sides go up and down on a motor and is wicked cool. From what I hear it will have a lot of other cool stuff like a smoke machine and more but you will have to wait till compotion to see it for your self.

Our crate team was soooooooooooo happy when we got an other two days. As for robot build, lets not go there...

Smile anwser and question

Last year we would pack some botttled water for the pit (make sure you bring this somehow, people tend to get dehydrated from the hard work, excitement, and high drink prices), all the spare part that weren't being used with the practice prototype robot, the sideing (if not attached), may some tools, the primary control system, team banner, team promotional give aways, other teams pack their team t-shirts in the create, foam to protect everything...can't think of more at the time.

Can anyone help with...How do you get the create from one event to the other? I know there is a table you go to for the shipping...But what do they need from us at the table?

(I guess they are not allowing the extra working time right after the event like in the past????)

Our team has the best crate we've had so far, I think...
Anyways, it comes with a very nice shelf system in the back of it, an HDPE fold out table kinda thing on the inside, a built in power strip (the crate has a small hole that the plug will fit out of).. and some lexan tool holders and such. Oh yeah, a lexan top or "roof". Ha, almost sounds better than my room at home

Once again, we will be using our tried-and-true method of combined robot and team transporation. After proving the incredible cost efficiency of this approach with last year's crate, we have decided to fully optimize the process and by freeze-drying both the robot and team members prior to crating and shipping. It is estimated that we can save nearly 900 pounds and 87 cubic feet of volume by shipping only dehydrated team members.

Look for us in Richmond. We will be the team furiously pouring water on a pile of metal shavings on the floor, and praying for it to grow into a functioning robot...
