Thumbs up 2014 Greater Toronto Regional West

Week 1 is fast approaching, and the Greater Toronto Regional West (GTRW) has some pretty interesting storylines:
  • This is the first time a Week 1 competition has taken place in Canada, and will be Ontario's season opener
  • Two defending World Champions are in action here: 610 and 1241
  • The original Canadian team 188 returns to competition after a one year hiatus due to the Ontario Teacher Action
  • IRI Finalists and FRC Top 25 team 1310 will be competing, and searching for their long overdue 1st ever Regional win
  • Local top teams such as 772, 907, 2852, 4001, 4343 and more will all be chomping at the bit to try and finally win a local regional

This will be the first Ontario regional in quite some time that neither 1114 or 2056 will be attending. As a result, a long line of teams that have lived in the shadows of this dominant pair will be gunning for an opportunity to finally win an Ontario regional and punch their ticket to CMP. Ontario gained a reputation for being an "overachieving" area last year, producing 2 of 3 World Champions, 3 of 4 IRI Winners, and a disproportionately high percentage of the FRC Top 25 (20% were from Ontario). Was last year an anomaly, and the region's performance will regress towards the mean? Or will Ontario produce at an even higher level, now that the Teachers' Labour situation has been resolved?

Tune in and find out!

Re: 2014 Greater Toronto Regional West

Just like all the other teams that are coming to 610 we are packing out gear with this real short turnaround from bag day to play day.

Shawn, any idea how many qual rounds will be run before finials?

At what time will the shuttle bus be running from Glendale on Friday and at what frequency?

Many thanks

Re: 2014 Greater Toronto Regional West

Glad to hear that you are joining us for week one.
The shuttles run from 8:30am until 9:15pm. The later shuttle is the last one from Crescent to the main Glendon parking lot. The shuttles run all day long with a good frequency. As the planning co-chair, I want you and other teams to know that this will be an amazing event! Only 4 more sleeps until practise day!
There will also be live video feed into the school theatre where 610 will lead an open scouting source on an adjacent large video screen for all teams. And the event food promises to be the best ever...

Re: 2014 Greater Toronto Regional West

Looking at the robot reveals so far, it looks like GTRW will definitely be competitive, especially for a week one regional.

Re: 2014 Greater Toronto Regional West

Per John Hobbins' post above, Team 610 will be publicly sharing data from our scouting system throughout the competition.

They will be shown on one of the large screens inside the school's theatre, where the remote "ScoutCentre" will be housed. Here teams will have access to the ScoutCentre data screens, Guest WiFi Internet, Power Outlets, Work Tables to setup their scouting computers, and an HD full-field fixed-view live stream of the competition.

The software is still going through its final iterations, but below is a summary of information that is likely to be available:

Statistics from 610's scouting team will scroll continuously throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday morning.

AFG% = Auton Field Goal % (Both Low and High Goals)
APPG = Auton Points per Game
FG% = Field Goal % (Auton + TeleOp, Low and High Goals)
APG = Assists per Game (either passed or received the ball to/from alliance partner)
TPG = Truss Shots per Game
CPG = Catches per Game
PPG = Points per Game (Auton + TeleOp)

Disclaimer: Since the software is still undergoing final iterations, the information being presented is still subject to change.
