Re: Gull Lake District

We had a crew head over on Saturday to watch the elimination rounds and we were all amazed at how well your alliance meshed together. It was like poetry in motion, watching the smooth hand offs and 4967 (That One Team) shots over the truss and the 2054 (TECH-Vikes) catches.

Re: Gull Lake District

Stuart,

Thank you for your kind words, Code Red is very excited and proud to have received the Chairman's Award at Gull Lake. I think I speak for the entire team when I say that we are glad to hear that our efforts make a difference in the community, and help to better other teams.

I am also a member of 4967, though not as involved as with 2771. I know the rest of the team is incredibly excited to have accomplished this much in their first season. We're all looking forward to working with you again at West Michigan and MSC.

I was also very pleased and excited when I seen how well things started in the quarter finals as you really don't know until you have to work together. I talked to the Saxons two mentors for quite a while before the eliminations and felt very good about their choice to fill out the alliance but anything can happen in the heat of the matches but it looked almost like we had worked together before. Every team did their job well and adjusted when the strategy needed to change.

Good luck to the Robotarians. If you have as good a robot and coaching as last year you will do very well.

Re: Gull Lake District

Once again, congratulations to 2771 on winning Chairmans. I can't think of a more deserving team. You're video was perfect. It was the epitome of what other teams should strive for.

I was blown away by 4967. My first time seeing them I just kept thinking "wow, they're a rookie?" I knew you guys would go far. Little did I know that you would be the number 2 seeded team after qualifications. Your team stuck unwaveringly to the KISS method. You did one thing and you did it better than anyone else. I heard you were having issues with your camera. Try reducing the frame rate.

As for the Tech Vikes and Saxons, you were the perfect complimented That One Team perfectly. The 2054's catching was a great addition for 4967's truss shot. Their two ball autonomous made up for 5248's lack of shooting. Speaking of the Saxons, they got stuck playing the inbounding position. This is one of the most unsatisfying positions. However, it was also the key to their alliance's success. Getting that third assist kept them leaps and bounds above the other alliances.

Good luck to all teams going to their next events.

Re: Gull Lake District

I agree! What an amazing weekend!

Congrats to 2771 for another Chairman's win, and all the great rookie teams that competed!

Though 4004 may not have been the top team out of the bunch, we definitely had a blast competing alongside some really amazing robots!

Can't wait to see most of you guys at West Michigan, and have another go at some really great competition!

Go FIRST!

Anthony,

I took a pretty good look at your robot in the pits and it had some of the neatest layout and wiring I have ever seen. Congrats on the Excellence in Engineering Award.

Thank you very much Stuart! From such a well-known team as 2054, that's a great compliment! We put a lot of thought into our robots "special features" and were very happy to see it get noticed. Congrats on the win and the Industrial Design award! You guys definitely worked hard to deserve it!

Re: Gull Lake District

It was an awesome first tournament! No one from 4967 expected to get anywhere near winning. It was super cool to see two rookie teams on the winning alliance, and thanks again to 2054 for being on our alliance, your help is greatly appreciated! 5248 was just what our alliance needed, a great inbounder that got us full assist points. I can't wait to see how West Michigan and MSC go, either way, its already been a great rookie season!

Red face Re: Gull Lake District

What an exciting weekend indeed. Thank you all for your encouragement. That ONE Team is so excited to have been chosen for the Rookie All Star award, and so blessed to have 2054 & 5248 to bring us through the eliminations. Without your teamwork we could not have done it.

I blame all this on Mrs. Coach, without her relentless encouragement, focus, and pushing our students to do better than they think they can, we would have not even been in the running for anything.

Re: Gull Lake District

Thank you all for the kind words. 4967 was not anticipating ranking so high, much less having the opportunity to work with such good teams! 5248's position might have seemed simple, but like Jack said, without it we wouldn't have succeeded. We kept to a basic strategy, get as many assists as possible, and watch each others backs the rest of the time. It was the coolest experience watching 2054 catch two truss throws in the same match, and a thrill to see that entire goal lit up for full assists. As soon as defense got heavy, we sent the easiest available robot to sink the ball in and move on.

Again, thank you all, and we look forward to competing again with you in the future!
