Re: Help With Robotics Team Name
Using the Panter mascot is probably not a great idea since it's fairly overused (40 panther teams already in existence, but hey, the eagle situation is worse at 104 teams). I would just brainstorm some cool, memorable names. There doesn't necessarily need to be a connection to the school.

The Squares (your town has a lovely town square, IIRC).
Do you know what your team number is going to be? Sometimes that will give you some inspiration. Last edited by neshera : 11-03-2014 at 14:58. Reason: Added a question |

^^ This. (It made me laugh out loud at the cleverness of it, and I know I would definitely remember your team name afterward.)

Re: Help With Robotics Team Name
Does it have to have your school's name or mascot in it? I mean, a lot of other schools don't. What is around your school that you wouldn't mind having be the name for your team for years to come?
(Pi)nthers (Pi + Panthers) Washington Wildcats (not sure if this is taken) Panthers^10º (panthers to the 10th degree or the year the school was founded like 1982 so Panthers^82º) There's so much to come up with. These are just to get an idea of perhaps incorporating science and technology in the name. Or you can be different and use food. lol |

Re: Help With Robotics Team Name
This is just the kind of tongue-in-cheek humor that makes a team's name perfect.
My idea for my team's name when we first started was Team Titanic. We'd build extravagant machines, only to watch them fail horribly! I think Team Titanium worked out better in the end. Last edited by tanmaker : 11-03-2014 at 16:56. Reason: Grammar |

Re: Help With Robotics Team Name
Have your team make a bunch of names and then have a vote on it.
Perhaps use something that the team is interested in as a base for a name. Since you are going to be a rookie team the name can change. Our rookie year we were named the Roboriders. We did not know about CD then nor did much research into team names. We were kind of thrown into FIRST by a grant that we were given, though never applied. Very overwhelmed at the beginning, so you are already doing well by being here and getting some feedback.. Our school team names are the Waveriders.. makes sense since were are in Hawaii and surfing was invented here... We were very fortunate to go to the world championships our first year.. After hearing about every variation of Robo*.* we knew our name HAD to change. We had a new name picked out by the time the plane landed. From then on we became Tiki Technologies aka Tiki Techs! Wonderfully there was no team name even close. Though we did kick around something with coconuts but that was used by another team, go figure, whom we have met at worlds and are a wonderful team! We didn't want to take away from their name or cause any confusion. Since it was confusing to us hearing so many variations of Robo*.* So come up with a few names and search to see if there is something similar.. It turned out that changing our name was the best thing for us. Much easier to market our team and far more memorable. +1 to the Washington Machines.. Funny, and you can name your robots maytag, bosch, etc.. Good luck and have fun with the naming of your team. Aloha! |

Re: Help With Robotics Team Name
Our name does not have to include our school name and it doesn't have to include our mascot either. We are waiting on our number but we are expecting high 4000's but we really want the # 5000. So far I like the Washington machines and Illinoids. Our school won't have members from other teams or from around our county. Thanks for all the help though sorry for being so late on the reply I've been busy with school.
I personally like the Washington machines it's very witty and it seems like people will actually get the pun of it. |
