Lightbulb Ever Wonder What It Takes To Setup A Regional?

Hi All,
As we approach the WPI District Event (March 12-14) I wanted to share a pretty cool time lapse video with everyone.

I am alumni of FIRST myself, Team 1515 MorTorq, and now attend WPI as a Robotic Engineering major. I am the Technical Director for the on campus production company (student run) called Lens & Lights. (http://lnl.wpi.edu/) We handle a wide variety of events on campus form a simple single microphone events for a campus club to the yearly Spring Concert or the WPI FIRST Robotics Event.

Last year we shot a 5 day time lapse to capture the set-up, event, and strike and let everyone see how it all comes together. It should be notes it was the first year WPI did a dual sided audience set-up and consequently our set-up changed drastically. Some of the back and forth you see in the videos is us developing the best method to tech this event.
We are capturing a time lapse of this year as well so stay tuned for an update with this years set-up.

If you have any questions please do ask. Enjoy!

Note: Field set-up Starts at 1:30 into the full event time-lapse. Its pretty cool.

Set-Up only: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzYTRQMbOAI
Strike Only: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EM4Aor-r8I

Picture Rate: 1/Min or 2/Min; we increased the rate to 2/Min after we finished set-up

Wow! That's an insane amount of work and a whole lot of volunteers. It's a whole different perspective and makes you realize how lucky we are to be able to attend these events.

Don't know what else to say... thank you doesn't seem to cut it!

Re: Ever Wonder What It Takes To Setup A Regional?

The camera is just one view. It's another perspective when you are actually setting up, running the competition, then take-down. This year is more physically demanding on the volunteers who are on the field. As a new "official" Field Supervisor this year I found out that nothing runs "smoothly" It might look that way from the bleachers, but there is always something to adjust or fix. Being the guy who runs the floor at the Suffield Shakedown didn't prepare me on what to expect at the Groton District event. Southington will hopefully be a little easier.

Re: Ever Wonder What It Takes To Setup A Regional?

Any idea what the total power draw is on all the system elements? The DC regional (back in the day) had ~100 PARcans aimed at the field. I couldn't help but wonder what the draw looked like on a setup like that...

Cool rigging setup in the middle too

Re: Ever Wonder What It Takes To Setup A Regional?

This is an awesome idea, but I think it would be cooler to have multiple go pros going at once. I will see if I can pull this off at the next PNW district event. I was able to pull of a few, as I call them, psuedo-timelapses with my dslr, which look cool, but were not properly compensated for the drop in exposure at times. I love all these cool videos being posted from teams
