Go to Post I remember going to Houston in 1998 and seeing a bot that could move sideways. Talk about inspiring... - Ken Patton [more]

So with that kind of shooting speed, I'm guessing firing angle is more or less just aiming straight at the goal?

Actually, no. We've found that with the full pullback shot you see in the video, you need to replicate your shooter angle and position so accurately to make shots you could never really get good consistency in a match.

Instead, we've tuned the shooter and angle to give us a shot that reaches the top of its arc just as it enters the goal (alla JVN sweet spot). This allows us much more tolerance in field position, so we can actually align and shoot in a reasonable amount of time. At the moment, we prefer a close shot that arcs a ton, which turns out is really easy to achieve both driving and stationary. That shot is probably only 60% pullback and even our long shot is probably only 80% pullback.

In any case, I think well try to specialize as more of a midfielder bot, alla 1323, that finishes cycles through the ten or one point goal when we need to.

This is truly an amazing robot. I can't wait to see it at Silicon Valley Regional!

Good luck Team 100!
