Storm Robotics Team 2729 Robot, "Fonzie"

Hello all - It's my honor to introduce you all to "Fonzie", 2729's robot for Aerial Assist!

This robot features:
  • 8 wheeled tank drive using 4" VersaWheels
  • AM14U Chassis with AM Sonic Shifters (11 ft/s, 2.77 ft/s)
  • 3 position roller intake arm
  • Catapult with variable tension and instant reset.
  • Hot Goal vision detection
  • Currently capable of 1 ball autonomous but have plans for 2

We hope the FRC community has enjoyed watching the development of this robot on ourTwitter, Instagram, and Facebook this year. We've learned a lot from the social media community and have also received some good feedback along the way.

Hope to see everyone at Hatboro this week and the Lenape-Seneca competition week 4! Have an awesome year teams!

Nate

Looks good guys. Are you using the lights for anything other than visual effects? We have a strip of lights on our robot that turn on while we have enough pressure for shooting. That way we don't try to shoot while our pressure is too low causing us to miss.

The lights are on the robot to provide visual feedback to the drivers and team members in stands during matches. We were highly successful with this setup on last year's robot so it was a no-brainer to do some on this one. We have LED's on the intake arms and under the chassis. Though, the underglow LEDs are currently disconnected until we unbag at Hatboro.

What visual feedback do you provide to the drivers with the lights?

Looking good Nate!
We took this cue from you guys last year and put some functioning feedback LEDs on for this year.

Can't wait to see you guys at Lenape \ Seneca

Different light patterns and colors indicate different things like autonomous phases, catapult tension, ball intake wheel direction. We still have some work to do on this for competition mode, but they have been extremely helpful during tests at home.

Our LEDs last year were kinda functional.

The one thing I've always loved about your designs are that they have both above-average functionality, but also are built in a way that is easily obtainable with almost any amount of resources.

The low gear is actually 2.77 ft/s, not what I originally wrote. Thought it would be good for holding position on the field before taking a shot. We thought holding our position against some defender/goalie robots would be hugely important on this field.

Re: Storm Robotics Team 2729 Robot, "Fonzie"

Thought I'd share some of our unbag work as we look to get ready for the Lenape-Seneca District Competition this week. We spent some time doing some shooter modifications to increase consistency by replacing our winch and surgical tube with a piston. We saw that the modifications really increased our shooting consistency and created a shot that is much more repeatable. The team also took some time to move our air tanks from their previous, totally exposed, position.

The team also had time to test our autonomous modes in the last hour of un-bag time. One ball autonomous is down and two ball is super close. Here's video on where we ended up at the end of the night.

We're looking forward to Lenape-Seneca. Can't wait to see everyone there!

Nate

We haven't started to think about that yet. The video I posted showed the only 4 attempts we took at 2 balls, so there's room for development.
