Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional

I believe that we shot the same type of footage at Buckeye that we shot at Crossroads. If that's the case then the upload process has probably already started:

Ohio IS quite the happenin' place for non-Ohio teams.

Completely agree; everyone on Team 846 loved it at Buckeye. Well run event, great people, awesome teams, great volunteers and staff, it was all excellent.

We are incredibly grateful that 910 still had enough faith in our ability to close the cycles to pick us up as the first selection, despite our nightmarish Saturday morning. Combined with 639's inbounding (who would have thought these guys would slip to the end . . .), we were incredibly happy to one point all day long. When we finally clicked as an alliance during the semifinals, we were one hell of a force.

Winning our FIRST ever regional with the RedFunkyFreeze/FrozenRedMonkeys alliance was incredibly awesome. Thank you Buckeye for an amazing experience. We look forward to bringing our shooting back and improving our game for Silicon Valley and Championships!

My recollection was:

Captain 1st pick 2nd pick
910 846 639
1507 1731 3484
2252 379 3591
533 3260 2632
1317 4085 4611
1001 [120 & 3054]
263 (694 declined) [217 & 3624]
694 [303 & 4268]

Sorry, didn't catch the order for the last 3.

1731 was replaced by 4930 in Semi 2-2.

I'm pretty sure we (694) declined alliance #7 and not #6 in favor of being the alliance captains of alliance #8. I remarked yesterday to another team mentor that declining and being one alliance lower didn't seem boo worthy. Or surprising for that matter. It's not like declining alliance #1. It seems like #7 and #8 are going to fairly similar in robot capability level. I also commented that you (or someone else) have to beat alliance #1 eventually to win so might as well play them in quarterfinals.

I enjoyed watching the matches. I had guests visiting earlier in the day Saturday and told them I thought 910 was the best robot there. He asked if we could beat them. I said no. So our 1 point win to force quarter finals to a third game was extremely exciting!

Thanks for the info. I was pretty sure that it was either 6 or 7.

It wasn't me, but that's neither here nor there. Your's was definitely a positive approach. :{D

From where I sat it sounded like "ooh" rather than "boo". I can only recall one time (CMP 2013) where I'm confident I actually heard "boo" at an FRC event.

Though Blair (MC) made a comment about it, my recollection doesn't allow me to comment either way (though it could have been a combination of both.)

What I don't understand is why declining still brings such a reaction. As an alliance captain, they've earned the right to make their own choice. Either one is valid.

Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional

And clearly 694 did well for themselves by making their own decision, so kudos to them. After losing that second quarterfinal, I was getting a bit nervous that our chances at getting a regional win were going to slip through our fingers. Fortunately we rallied, hammered the bots back into shape, and came back . . . but that was close.

Thanks for the kind words! Can't wait to see 1678 at SVR, the competition should be really intense.

Re: 2014 Buckeye Regional

I had a great time at Buckeye and our team really walked away with one of the best regional experiences we have had in a very long time.

The refs were awesome, the 1126 crew plus Dante meant not having to worry about weird calls in a game that has had that issue at almost every level. We finished with 0 fouls on any of our alliances in the entire competition in large part due to how clear the refs were about anything and everything and how consistent they were on those calls. I think the reffing at Buckeye is something a lot of other regionals can look to to see how this game can be called properly.

With regards to alliance selections I also just heard oooo more than anything and wasn't bothered at all and neither was our student on the field, I just hope 263 took no offense to our decline and understood that we were just trying to work what we thought was our best possible strategy.

I had a blast this weekend and I hope 694 can cross paths with more of the teams from Buckeye in the future.
Huge congrats to 846 who really earned their first win after years of deserving it, you guys were awesome all weekend long, 910 who we had so much fun playing with in our qualification match together, and 639 who was so kind as to help us out in quarter finals and lend us their spring scale even though we were playing against them. That's what I call playing the game the right way. You guys were awesome and it was a thrill to play against you.

303 and 4269, it was a short but wild ride. It was great playing with you guys and I am proud that our alliance was the only one to give the #1 alliance a loss.

Also huge congrats to 217 on Chairman's, it was so much fun getting to play a match with such a legendary team. Your last shot in the last qualification match of the day is what put us over the edge to be alliance captain because of the 10 assist points that ball carried.
