Engineering Awards Quinfecta

At the LA regional this year, 330 won the Leadership in Control Award for the first time in team history. We've now won at least one of each of the 5 technical awards (Creativity, Engineering Excellence, Industrial Design, Leadership in Control, Quality) This made me want to look at how many other teams have won at least one of each. I used Team 358's award database

Through the end of the 2013 season, there are 35 teams that have completed the Engineering Awards Quinfecta.

Code:

There are 88 teams who have won 4 of the awards through the end of the 2013 season. Here are the top teams and a listing of the award that hasn't been won.

Re: Engineering Awards Quinfecta

Is the Excellence in Engineering Award equivalent to Delphi's other awards they offered in the past (Driving Tomorrow's Technology, for instance)?

Yes. Here is the description from the 2002 manual of the Delphi Driving Tommorow's Technology award
Quote:
“Driving Tomorrow’s Technology”
This award celebrates an elegant and advantageous machine feature. This award recognizes any aspect of engineering elegance including, but not limited to: design, wiring methods, material selection, programming techniques, and unique machine attributes. The criteria for this award are based on the team’s ability to concisely verbally describe, as well as demonstrate, this chosen machine feature.
Compared to 2014:
Quote:
Excellence in Engineering Sponsored by Delphi
Celebrates an elegant and advantageous machine feature.

It looks like Team 696 is missing the creativity award. We still need to win that award to get the Quinfecta.

Hi Joe,

We got our first Industrial Design award at Gull Lake this year so by my research we have all five now but the one I am most proud of is the Engineering Excelence award we got in 2011 at Champs. The same year we met the BeachBots and were alliance partners in Archimedes.

Good Luck and I hope to see you guys in St Louis again!!

Re: Engineering Awards Quinfecta

Hey Joe,

Your friend Dave decided that we had to be on that list. So.. with my ancient memory and Dave's persistence we managed to find the trophies in our lab to make the quinfecta.

Until this year we were short a Quality award. So with that win, it looks like Team 294 gets to join the elite quinfecta list.

Awesome!

Apparently we aren't very "Creative". Can we get someone from 190 to advise us on creativity?

Never thought about the Engineering Awards Quinfecta, now I want to join the club.

Adam, when most of us look at your robots, we aren't thinking, "How Creative!"

What we are thinking is more like, "Holy Crap!"

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

It would not be PC if I designed it, but I have had that feeling upon seeing some of the HOF team robots. Also frequently have "Why didn't we think of that" effect at events. I am a fan of "deceptively simple" designs which I believe are not so simple to engineer but make the most robust robots.

Re: Engineering Awards Quinfecta

Very cool thread Joe!

It looks like 1678 has joined the Quinfecta Club this year! With the Creativity Award at Inland Empire and the Engineering Excellence Award at Sacramento, we now have exactly one of each of the Engineering Awards Quinfecta!

Also, interesting point, each one of our 5 Engineering Awards is associated with one of our 5 Regional Wins in 1678's history.
