Truss shot into goal

I did some searching through the forum and I didn't see any similar posts so I am going to throw this out there. At the Pacific Northwest Regional, the team I mentor for (5085), was in a match where our Alliance partner made a truss shot and the truss shot then bounced into the 1 pt goal. The ball was then immediately grabbed by a volunteer and given to a human player at midfield. That does not seem right. It wouldn't have made any difference in the match as the match was almost over when this happened (under 45 seconds) but shouldn't that 1 pt goal have counted? I know the whole point of the game was to work together for maximum points but if you make a goal it should count regardless of where you were when you launched the ball. Did anyone else run into this? Was this a rule buried somewhere in the manual? Just curious.
