Truss shot into goal

I did some searching through the forum and I didn't see any similar posts so I am going to throw this out there. At the Pacific Northwest Regional, the team I mentor for (5085), was in a match where our Alliance partner made a truss shot and the truss shot then bounced into the 1 pt goal. The ball was then immediately grabbed by a volunteer and given to a human player at midfield. That does not seem right. It wouldn't have made any difference in the match as the match was almost over when this happened (under 45 seconds) but shouldn't that 1 pt goal have counted? I know the whole point of the game was to work together for maximum points but if you make a goal it should count regardless of where you were when you launched the ball. Did anyone else run into this? Was this a rule buried somewhere in the manual? Just curious.

Re: Truss shot into goal

No. The ball must be scored from your side of the truss to receive points.

Re: Truss shot into goal

A ball does not count as scored unless the robot last in contact with the ball was between the truss and the goal. This can be seen in the manual at the start of section 3.1.4 under scoring criteria (letter B). Shame it isn't legal though, full court scoring would make the game way more interesting.

Re: Truss shot into goal

A BALL is considered SCORED in an ALLIANCE’S GOAL if

A) a ROBOT causes one (1) of their ALLIANCE’S BALLS to cross completely and remain completely through the opening(s) of one (1) of their ALLIANCE’S GOALS without intervening TEAM member contact,
B) the ALLIANCE ROBOT last in contact with the BALL was entirely between the TRUSS and their ALLIANCE’S HIGH GOALS, and
C) the BALL is not in contact with any ROBOT from that ALLIANCE.

In this case, the robot that trussed the ball would not have met condition B.
Hope this helps.

EDIT: Wow, two people got in before me. This also happened to 135, who was against us, during Semifinal 2-1 at Crossroads, but it was mistakenly counted as scored by the referees. Our alliance knew it was a mistake, but we didn't question it because we won the match anyway.

We wanted to shoot cross court and can but goals do not count. See this rule.

Re: Truss shot into goal

Thanks everyone for the clarification. Seems a shame that the scoring has to be done between the truss and the goal. I mean I get that last year folks would just sit at a loading station and put the frisbees into the goal but that is a completely different game.

Re: Truss shot into goal

Had this been scored, it would have been by far the best play ever. As it was, the crowd still went absolutely nuts. Fortunately, the lack of a score didn't affect the outcome of the match (although it would have changed the high score of the day!). The announcer had to explain in detail why the score did not count before they put the final display up.

Re: Truss shot into goal

Team 2383, the Ninjineers, has had their truss shot bounce into the High Goal.
It was pretty impressive but ends up being lost time as the ball has to be returned to the field.
I know it happened at least twice in South Florida but I can't seem to find any videos of it.
