The mentor team FRC666 is always up for the challenge. If any of the teams attending would like to use their practice robot as the mentor bot let me know.

Hello! The ÜberBots plan to attend WIWI, but we are not familiar with the mentor robot. What exactly is it? What does using our practice bot as a mentor bot entail?

Thanks!

Re: WIWI Wolcott Connecticut

The mentor bot is scheduled like any other robot as one of the alliance partners in the qualification matches. Team mentors sign up as the drive team on a first come - first served basis for each match. The drive team will get a quick five minute training session on how to operate the robot before the match begins. It can be quite comical at times. Driving and operating these robots while trying to play the game is hard!

We are not allowed to compete in the eliminations but usually on of the teams does try to pick us. I'm proud to say that there have been years where we were not the bottom seed in the qualification rounds.

We usually have a student or two on the team to help out with instructions or repairs. We even have a mascot.

Re: WIWI Wolcott Connecticut

Instead of having all the mentors on one team with one robot, how about the mentors drive their own team's robots and compete at the end after the final matches?

I love the idea of mentors driving. I think it would be fun and exciting for both the students and mentors but I would rather drive my own team's robot since I know it well.

Just my thoughts!

Re: WIWI Wolcott Connecticut

As a student who has gone 3 years now (and will be going again), half the fun of team 666, is watching the mentors struggle. In 2012, one of ours played human player. He attempted to throw the ball through the field slot, but instead it deflected and hit him in the face. The TorMentors, Team 666, is something that is great at an offseason event

Re: WIWI Wolcott Connecticut

Yes we defintely wanted to do something different than mentor matches. I think team Tormentor is unique and fun. It allows mentors to go against or with their own team. It also keeps wear and tear off of the team's robots (and puts it on the tormentor bot). It also lets Mentors work with other mentors from other teams.

Yeah if we could get a teams list over here for pre-scouting that would be pretty much the most fantastic thing to happen to me this week.
