Question Exhibition Events

My team (291-CIA) is considering holding an exhibition event sometime after the season is over. Are there any other teams who have hosted such an event that can give some advice? How many people were needed for planning, setup, and during the actual event? What was the overall cost? What venue did you use, and, if it was something bigger and better than your high school gym, how did you gain access to it? Feel free to send any information directly to me at wildkarrde204@yahoo.com.
Also, if any team would be interested in attending an exhibition event in Erie, PA in mid-September (we think) please let me know at the same adress. Include the number of people you'll bring with you if at all possible (the bigger the numbers, the easier it will be for us to get a nice venue and support from the city) Thanks in advance, and I look forward to seeing all the teams in Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Houston!

-Dan

After the season was over last year, our local art museum had a had a display of electronics and robots. They invited our team and the other local team to come and display. It was great PR.

I don't know if the above helps you, but maybe check to see if there is a local discovery or children's museum or a place that deals with technology or electronics or modern fun things. They would probably welcome students who are passionate about their robot to come in and display it.

you might also want to talk to whoever runs the CA games. They are like another regional and after an entire summer to improve your robot you get a chance to try again. See what they know, I don't know what team(s) runs it though.

Does anyone know which teams have held the CA games? I've been going through the list of CA team websites for about an hour and haven't found any mention of it.

Feel free to IM me on AIM (HlfShell) to talk about preparatory work that we went through to get Brunswick Eruption out, and the common problems you'll need to know about in order to run a smooth competition.

Also, feel free to e-mail me.

Dean Kamen came over here in November to lecture at the local Sciencenter and also at Cornell U. We were there at the lecture and then the following Saturday, it was Invention day. There were 2 Segways for people to ride and we had a fairly large corner of the room to run demos. I think that was more PR than anything else we've done.

Teams 294 and 599 and 22 are largely involved in running the SCRRF games in So Cal. This year's preseason event was almost just like a regional.

Western Region Robotics Forum run the California Robot Games over here at September every year. Jason Morrella and I were the event manager for Cal Game last year.

Just send me an IM sometime, and I will show you the planning chart we used last year.

Are you looking to do just an exhibition, or a whole competition?

If it is just an exibition, it can be as simple as team xyz brings ramp, and teams xxy and zzx bring totes, and we set the thing down in a big open space.

If you want to run a mini competition, it is *a lot* more involved. Some good people to talk to have already posted in this thread, and I'm sure you will get other good suggestions.

Cal Game planning chart

Take a look at the attached pdf file. We have a planning chart for last year's California Robot Game, and we use it to organize who does what, and make sure we have enough people to run the event.
