Go to Post Both might accomplish the same "function" or "results" (perhaps a lift of some kind), but there are clear differences in simplicity, in cost, in maintainability, extensibility, and several other "ilities" -- which are a staple of engineering evaluation criteria. - msd [more]

How was the 2014 Finale?

It was my team's first trip to the Championship, and we did not plan to stay for the finale so we could get home at a reasonable time.

How was the Finale? Is it worth staying for (if you don't win Einstein)?

Our team went to the finale and we enjoyed it! Of course our favorite part was the food, there wasn't a big selection, but we didn't care, because we are starving teenagers. There was a "glow light dance" which was basically a rave (without the drugs and mosh pits), and that was pretty neat. There was an area where you could design a ring and 3D print it with Cubify printers. There was the carnival, which had a bunch of fun carnival games where you could win stuff. There was a laser tag area, but the line was MASSIVE, so we didn't try it. There were performers (and the food) in the convention center, that was fun too! There was an X Box area where you could play on the X Box One.

Our team went RIGHT after the matches on Einstein were over, and there weren't very many people then, but not long after, it was slammed. Either way, it was fun and a good bonding experince for our team, so it was probably worth the $25 in my opinion.

Re: How was the 2014 Finale?

I was hoping their would be a large selection of like their was last year. I was disappointed by the lack of options. We also have team members that have dietary restrictions so it disappointing to see there was little for them to eat. I am very happy though that FIRST chose to have it in the convention center this year. The lack of needing to get bused around made the event more enjoyable.

I just hung out in the Glow Lounge and enjoyed the constant blast of music and marveled at the floor rippling from the center mosh pit.

Was there any news on the kid at the rave that was on the floor? I didn't see it happen, but he was on the ground surrounded by volunteers and police for a long time. I would assume that is had something to do with the dance floor being raised (one of the sections near the edge come undone, it was the perfect size for a foot to go through).

Oh wow. I haven't heard anything about it, but I didn't know that it happened either. Hm.
