Robots going out during practice matches and holding up a sign tends to be the favoured way.
At 2013 Buckeye Regional I saw team 639's bot reach up its full 7 feet to roll out a giant piece of construction paper that said "POOJA, PROM?" Pooja said yes. At 2014 Finger Lakes, team 20 sat in the middle of the field with it's robo-jaws opened up showing a sign that said "Beth (I believe it was Beth), prom?" I didn't see the outcome of this one.
