China: gathering 2014 KOP electronics

As many of you know, CUYRL(China Urban Youth Robotics League) is holding a scrimmage at Shenzhen, China this August. Of the 21 teams attending the event, 8 will be the 2014 rookies from China, 15 will be brand new teams started this spring from China, and three teams (525, 694, and 987) are from the US. The 15 new robotics teams will be having a six week build season in June to prepare themselves for the upcoming build season and the August scrimmage.
That being said, we need 18 sets of the 2014 KOP electronics. Without two bridges, we are currently just short of 3 full kits so far. If you are able to help with the gathering of these parts please PM me immediately as time is running short for their season to start. I have a spreadsheet of what we have and still need here. Anything that you can donate from the list is greatly appreciated as well as extras since obviously teams won’t have spares.

Thank You,

Travis Murray & Team 987

P.S. Please make sure if you are donating them that the analog breakouts have jumpers and the cRios/PDBs have the cRio power plug with them.

What CUYRL is doing to prepare it's teams and establish FIRST in China is nothing short of amazing. The quality of these rookies is going to blow people away. A full build season of practice and a scrimmage with seasoned veterans, all before their first FIRST Season?!

They still have some significant challenges. For example, last season they didn't get their KOP until 3 weeks after the start of the build season. At least some of the teams go to school from 8 AM until 8 PM (some students go to school 6 days a week.) 4830's build site is 1 hour from the school.

CUYRL is doing all the right stuff so I'm confident they will work through the challenges.

For teams that don't have spare parts to contribute, is there a need for manuals/technical documents to be translated into Chinese?

Pretty sure there will be a need for some translation, Hzheng. I will make sure my guys are aware that you may be able to help us out and someone may be contacting you in the near future if that's ok with you

Re: China: gathering 2014 KOP electronics

Stupid thing from an engineer in industry to speed up the process of sending parts.

Get the export classification for all the electronics from the manufacturerer before you send them. Make sure it's marked properly as well. It will save you hassles when the parts go through customs.

Actually this is a smart thing. Customs delays can kill projects. Getting the paperwork details right on every shipment is important.

Re: China: gathering 2014 KOP electronics

Great news! National Instruments will be supplying each of the 15 new teams with a cRio and all of its cartridges/breakouts. However we still have a long way to go. The deadline for shipping the parts to China is June 6. Once again, if you have anything you can donate for this event, please let me know. The parts will be given back after the event in Shenzhen so you will be able to use the equipment for off-season projects once school starts.

Thank You,

We are so greatful for NI's helping hand! To clarify the assistance a bit more, the donation includes base and 3 modules...we still need to come up with breakouts and sidecars

I'll talk to my team tonight about possibly getting some stuff together. If you guys have a specific list of what you need in particular, I'd be happy to see what we can do about sending you some parts.

My school started teaching Mandarin last year, and we've got a few members who have taken the class. We'd be happy to do a little translation

Thanks for offer to help, Dan. Not too late to help us establish a collection of spare parts that we will need at the event
