In hiding

We(team 88) have chosen to wait to show our robot off at the competions. Who else is taking the same road as us?

Our team, as of now, is doing that. March 13 will be the first date that photos will be up (or March 12th, who knows).

Since no-body took any pictures of our robot for the short time it was in a near state of completion (before it was disassembled for shipping), we don't have to worry about it. The fact that noone cares helps too.

I have a few questions for all of you who are "hiding" your robot.

1. What are you hiding from? who can possibly steal your idea now? I know I won't.

2. If amazing people is your goal, why not do it here? Look at the reactions that 68 and 179 got. Why wait for regionals to post a pic. If you don't post a pic on CD i'm not going to come looking for you at nats.

3. By trying to hide your robot you are trying to make your robot more ominous, but the fact is that you come off as thinking that you are better than everyone else.

There are lots of teams that have very innovative designs that can be easily copied. Like 60 and thier netting. But it doesn't stop them from posting.

Share your robots, its not only fun for you to hear our compliments but its fun for us to see other teams creations.

Sharing ideas is what FIRST is all about.

Don't take it the wrong way. I don't mean to come across as thinking we are better. We just choose to hold off from showing our robot because it makes it harder for other teams to make a strategy. Also it kinda gets people wondering what we have been doing and it gets very exciting for them. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.

Clanat has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Being a second year team, we have very little idea of who are the "big teams" to look for. Last year we were amazed at nationals at some of the robots. The only way I know of what robots look good that I want to take a closer look at in Houston is by pictures. It would be nice to compile a list of the robots I would like to take a closer look and be amazed at.

I think it is just about impossible to have strategies against a picture, im not even taking the scrimmages that happened that serious, I know that many things will change when the boxes get opened on Thursday and the practice rounds start. Even the practice rounds some teams hold back and you don't get there full bot till Friday and your jaw drops and you say "they can do that?". I dunno just what I have seen in the past.

you can tell a lot about a robot in just a picture. you're right you can not see the whole thing and what it can do but you can have a major idea in what it can do.

No real pictures of 470 will be posted.

At the discretion of my team, renders from the full-scale autocad model in progress will be posted.. teaser style.

Everything structual is done, just need to put in battery, compresser, gearbox etc.

If I were to show it now you would know what we do just as well as a real picture, so we may wait for the surprise at great lakes regional

Last year we had a secret system that I hinted at a lot and then finally let the secret out with the approval of my team after we shipped our robot. This year I have no idea what the team wants but since I do not have any pics of this year's robot as of now I guess I can't just post a pic.

Plus, every year I have been with my team the final design has changed so much from 1st idea to the last competition that it's really hard to accurately post a discussion and or picture of what our robot can do and looks like - though I have attempted to do so in the past.

I found the quote from GilaHumanPlayer that states "3. By trying to hide your robot you are trying to make your robot more ominous, but the fact is that you come off as thinking that you are better than everyone else." to be very disturbing.

There are an infinite amount of reasons that can make a team not post their pics. They could be not happy with the way it looks and are waiting to get that perfect photo, they could be hiding something to be unveiled and totally amaze someone, or this year maybe, just maybe, a team has actually read the team updates and are waiting for word as to what we can actually build after the ship date (if anything at all) and honestly, maybe "borrow" an idea from another team that has posted their picture prematurely.

While we are on this topic, would you as a team think of letting another team drop by and see what you are doing during the six weeks or would you be so scared to lose that vital design information that you would not let any other team member and or team look at it until the day of competition???

I'm sorry if that comment came out wrong Elgin.

All i'm trying to say is, I worked just as long and just as hard on my robot, and I feel that my design is just as good as yours, and yet I showed mine. Why not show yours?

Well like I said I personally have no pics of our robot yet this year but if you insist, go here and then click broadband and look at the 2002 bot in the flash animation

45

I think I'm going to call my team "somewhat" in hiding. From the pictures I've posted you can't see everything, and there are really no numbers (data) that have been posted. There is also another thing we've been hiding that many of the posters from 45 have been dieing to talk about. I'm pretty glad that there is only a week left until we can unvail our new toy.
