Re: BattleCry@WPI 15 - Reg opening soon!
ooooooh I just woke up...
I had the strangest dream, it started out like me and the team were moving through molasses, and everything was going wrong, you know those dreams? Like nothing was going right and there's nothing you can do about it? And then the weirdest thing happened, even though we had this losing record, and we were ranked in the lower half, one minute later we were in the #3 alliance, and then all of the sudden, we won the whole event? Dreams are weird. Luck has always been a factor in FIRST Robotics, but as I told the team, though there's nothing you can do about the bad luck, you have to be prepared to take advantage of the good luck when it comes your way. But I have to admit that it was wildly good luck that the random pick out of the "Magic Box," was exactly the 3rd bot we would have selected if we had been given the first choice. It's also the alliance that could never have been put together in the traditional serpentine selection (because they would have been picked way before the 3rd alliance had a chance). Battlecry's random 3rd bot assignment prevented teams from applying the normal selection strategy and consequently a lot of spectacular teams left the eliminations surprisingly early. But I hope it was half-as-wonderful to everyone else as it was for us just to see 3 robots blend their unique strengths into a single cohesive unit. Condolences to Windham and GaelForce; I agree it was unfair to not know who your 3rd bot was going to be until minutes before the first match of quarters. Thanks to Colleen and everyone at WPI for putting on the biggest event in New England, plus the whole social evening, that must have been quite a task. Thanks to RedShift who saw us way down the list ranked at 32 yet recognized our capabilities (I suppose you remembered us from RI?). Thanks to STEM Whalers for persevering and making the one of the best inbounder/defense robots around. Good News for Southeastern CT, right? Shouts to 195 (my favorite bot this year), GUS (always a pleasure), 716-181-2648 (you gave us fear), to the finalists 1687-230-246, and thanks to Aces, GaelHawks, AirStrike, NUTRONs, and a lot of other classy teams that we look toward for inspiration. Stay geeky, yo. Last edited by Chi Meson : 27-05-2014 at 06:02. |
