FIRST Fantasy

Not to be confused with Fantasy FIRST.
Everyone who participates in FIRST has a goal or a dream in mind. What is your wildest FIRST desire? Please nothing weird or creepy, that's what FRC Confessions is for. Giveq me your most crazy FIRST wish. Irt could something as simple as winning the championships for a decade or running a business that serves the community.
mine would require me getting ALOT of money. I would then buy something like this (sure it's ugly as sin on the outside but boy does it look sweet on the inside) customize it so I can transport robots and tools in the back and drive to all the FIRST event I could week after week driv ing teams and volunteers to events with me.
So what's your FIRST fantasy?

Re: FIRST Fantasy

Well, when I one day win the lottery, I plan to retire and start traveling the state year round working with teams. Go over quick build, strategy, inspection stuff... you name it, I would spend a day or two helping teams get a process in place for the season! 4 off season events, including two I would need a hotel for. Then of course during competition season it would be a different regional every week. This past year, I think it would have been Central Illinois, Duluth, St. Louis, Cleveland (So I can stop by my mom's place in Ohio... otherwise it would be Wisconsin), Minneapolis, Chicago, MSC, CMP, and finally the MN State Tournament.

From there... probably go back to school to work on a PHD in Comp Sci or Robotics. So long as it didn't interfere with my FIRST participation!

Re: FIRST Fantasy

Mine isn't too big... But during/after college starting up an FRC team and leading them by mentoring them to an event win (anywhere). My reasoning for this is that I am getting my time as a student and I have been blessed with fantastic mentors, so I feel like the best way to give back is to give the FIRST opportunity to a school that doesn't have a team and to help the kids succeed. It would also make me proud of myself if I were able to be a mentor of a team that I started.

If we are winning the lottery, then I have thought setting up a FIRST Scholarship foundation would be a nice activity in my retirement.

Re: FIRST Fantasy

My FIRST wish is that I can help to mentor a team that was a horrible team that was close to closing its doors then helping them to become a great team that lives on for years to come.

Re: FIRST Fantasy

Two that don't necessarily require a lottery ticket:

1) Get a Columbia area team (doesn't even have to be mine!) into the Championship elimination rounds.
2) A South Carolina team (which also doesn't have to be mine) wins Einstein. It'd only be the third time a team from our state has reached that field (and the latest was 2007).

Re: FIRST Fantasy

I second Al's scholarship foundation!

[If I won the lottery] I'd like to set up the funding to provide year-round build space for teams in communities where their schools limit their ability to access tools and equipment. I envision places that are large enough for workshops, computer labs and practice fields and located with a public front so people walking by / driving by will be able to see the activity and stop in to check it out.

Wait, not sharing with ME?!?

I have a similar idea, a hacker space with the tooling for anybody to come in and build, with resident people to teach how to use/build or machine parts. Along with a parts supply (VexPro/AndyMark/Sparkfun East (ummm VEXAndSparkyMark) Like Woodworkers Shops in our area. Low budget teams can come and build all season, other teams come use the 3D printers, etc. But I want more of a Year Round focus, not just a few months of the year. And I want to have space for multiple practice fields (VEX, FLL, FTC, Bobot, FRC, etc. ) (Of course assuming there was any left after Cynette's share )

Re: FIRST Fantasy

Helping my team (whether it is next year when I am a senior or in the future on a team that I help start/mentor) become a FIRST Hall of Fame auto-bid team by winning Chairman's at the Championship Event. It may not sound like much in comparison to some of the other cool stuff on this thread, but from where I stand right now it seems like quite the Herculean task (one that I am more than happy to undertake).

Re: FIRST Fantasy

Two where lottery is not needed:

1) Go back and be a Head Coach of a robotics team. The reason is that I always feel the need to go back and give to a program that has given me a lot of knowledge; and an actual direction for a career. Mentoring is fun, but I would love to hold a serious management position on my a FIRST team.

2) Be able to be a Master of Ceremonies at competitions. It is something I wished I could be for a while, because it just seemed like so much fun. Every competition that I go to, all of the EmCees seem like they have so much enjoyment with it; Introducing teams, communicating with the crowd, announcing awards to teams, and overall making sure everyone has a great time.

Re: FIRST Fantasy

Single-handedly start and sponsor FIRST team with my riches.
Only one sponsor needed, because I'll have CNCs, CNC lathes, and a waterjet. Plus loads of cash from the lottery.
