I hear you. There are way too many hours consumed and way too many obligations missed to be a mentor for FIRST. The worst part of being a lead mentor is the that the buck has to stop with you. Moreover, it is very difficult to get others, especially some parents to understand the gravity of what being a FIRST team means, and what sacrifices a mentor goes through.

I, too, am so looking for a summer break with three months off and re-evaluate my position in the Fall. Good Luck and thank you for all the wonderful things you have done.

It is nice to take a break. I feel better already after only a week of reduced involvement. I will still be around to help out in some way, but I know I am not coming back as lead engineering mentor, which is why the team is looking for somebody to replace me in that role.
