That made me imagine getting sand in our robot.

The poor drive gearboxes... *shudders*

Re: Don't Try This At Home Kids

Reminds me of a demo we did at a local elementary school's GOLD day (I forget the acronym but remember the uselessness of the D standing for day and then they add day to the end ) basically a field day.

We ended up driving our robot about 200 yards through a tall-grass and standing water muddy field, before maybe a quarter mile of cheap asphalt road. The robot was built with a high COG because we planned to have a belly climber that never came to, so it kind of drove on stilts, keeping the important bits out of the muck. Fully enclosed VexPro ballshifters FTW that day

If the GDC made a game that consisted of driving in a straight line, it would probably be the hardest game in FRC history.

It's called "Autonomous."

Re: Don't Try This At Home Kids

I have to admit, the track coach in me was more concerned for the track surface than the robots. But that fine sand can be a real pain to get out of stuff.

Off season events can be a bit of fun... The swerves were fine amazingly. I was more worried about the jags...

I believe our first race was to see how far we could get without loosing Comms. From my memory, 2056 won the first race.

We had a second race afterwards where we raced the robots around the 400 metre track, with the drivers/driverstation running behind the robots. 1310 won that race (with sand in their robot).
