IRI 2014: PNW AV crew needs your support

Help Send the FIRSTWA A/V Crew to the Indiana Robotics Invitational on July 17-19 to spread the word of what we do, and teach to improve future A/V and live-stream across the country.

The Pacific Northwest (PNW) AV crew has been invited to run the live stream at the 2014 Indiana Robotics Invitational. At the event we will be running the live stream, archiving matches, and creating a highlight reel. We will be teaching Indiana FIRST how we do audio and visual in Washington.

Three members of our all student crew are unable to afford the trip without additional support. We have set up a gofundme for accepting donations. Any donations are greatly appreciated and will go toward lodging and airfare.

Go fund me:

Would you be willing to teach others how to do this? Having even one or two of us gain the experience for WVROX and future events around here would be very helpful, and we will at IRI.

If time were to permit on Thursday after setup was complete, we would love to do a demo for anyone and everyone who is interested. Our goal through PNW AV is to teach and spread what we do to improve streaming throughout the country. But to get there we will need to make our goal. The original goal of $3300 has been worked down to $2000 with budgeting. We hope to make it but our attendance is currently dependant if we can gain the appropriate amount of funding.

Will the webcast and archive be the full field view?

We will have five cameras on different spots of the field including a full field and a mobile camera. We have someone switching which camera is showing on the stream all of competition, ensuring the best view.

This seams pretty cool. I personally do not like when the webcast switch cameras, but that is just me. I would rather a static Full Field View where I can watch what I want to watch. This is especially true in Auto, where I'd like to see both sides simultaneously.

However, it's an art, and sometimes the full field cameras are so far away from the field, that the action is hard to follow. It would be awesome if events had multiple streams: a constant fixed full field view, and a second close-up/switching camera stream. This way everyone gets to watch it the way they like. Both streams can share the same audio.

If there is a constant full field live stream for IRI, I wouldn't mind paying for that, and helping your cause.

Regards,
Kevin

We do keep a full field view for auto every time. It is conscious choice on our part because we agree that Auto needs to be seen with a full field view.

I'm sure we could try doing a dual stream for the event if we were given the ok from the IRI planning committee. I have heard many requests for a pure full field view stream, so the demand definitely exists.

Actually, we did two streams last year for IRI. A full field HD view using a GoPro 2 and the normal mixed stream in SD. My hope this year is we can do both streams in HD. The facility has more than enough internet bandwidth to handle multiple HD streams going out, it is simply a matter of having all the right hardware to do it.

Well there we go. I know that we have two matrox encoders so outputting two streams would be easy for us.

Re: IRI 2014: PNW AV crew needs your support

As a PNW alum who watched events almost every week via the webcasts put on by this crew, I can vouch for them and their skills. They maintained consistent quality across the events throughout the entire season, from Week 1 district events to the district championship in Portland. I never had any serious complains about the camera switching, which was refreshing compared to webcasts in the past.

If there is a demand for a demo, we would be happy to go through our entire system and explain the ins and outs of it. We understand that FIRSTers may not know all the components of an A/V system and would be happy to explain ours to help spread the knowledge that we have gained this season.

Now the demo would include quite a bit and at most we would want to do it in about an hour to a hour and a half after we finish setting up on Thursday. The main topics would be the choices in equipment, the placement of cameras, the software side of the system, and a detailed look into our workflow, which would be quite helpful since it focuses on streaming, archiving, and uploading.

I can now confirm that we will have a dynamic livestream using multiple cameras and then also a static livestream that will have one camera that will stay on a full field view the whole competition.

Thank you very much for this.

One thing is that I think I remember last year the full soled stream didn't have audio (or it was using theGoPro's audio), do you think you could fix that and get it to use normal audio?
