Understood. Just running the DS without a robot is a decent test. If you can add a joystick and see the LEDs light up takes it further. I'd be rather surprised if the Cypress board works, but test it if you've got it.

Someone on Chief Delphi got the Driver Station to run on Linux with WINE in the past. Here's a link.

Joysticks are quite easy on Linux; the issue is just finding a cross platform way to get it to work.
