Hi CD,
It is almost a week Israel is being bombed by hundreds of rocket and missiles but thanks to a great inventor ("Dani Gold") a machine that is called "IRON DOME" intercepting most of the missiles.
Hamas rocket range covers most of the territory of Israel and includes about 5 million citizens of about 8 million living in Israel.
In the last 15 years the city "Sderot" is being bombed by kassam rockets, the citizens has 15 seconds from the "Tzeva Adom" (translation: "Red Colour") alert to find a shelter. This situation which is impossible to live in led our goverment and the ministery of defence to search a solution that will protect the citizens, about 7 years ago the inventor and many other people succeeded in convincing the goverment to fund their idea.
Right now there are 8 "IRON DOMES" in Israel that are defending us. (to cover all israel 13 will be enough).
The "IRON DOME" is being improved all the time even (about) 2 years after it was being used for the first time. "IRON DOME" has over 90% succes in destroying the missiles that being launched to civilized areas, it doesn't destroy missiles that the system recognize that will fall in open areas because every "IRON DOME" rocket which is called "TAMIR" cost over 100K dollars. In some case "IRON DOME" launch 2 "TAMIR rocket in order to destroy 1 missile to make sure there won't be failures.

I heard about this a few years ago and this is indeed one of the best inventions ever.

On Face The Nation this morning they talked about the Iron Dome and an app they are using. The app is connected with the Iron Dome. When a missile is detected it notifies the users where it was launched from and the projected target. Amazing technology, sadly we still need it.
