First time java programming

Ok to start, we are a team that has only used labview and would like to change to java before next season. We have no idea what program we should use, how to program in Java, and how to send code or set up the Crio to use java. Help in those areas would be most appreciated.

(pardon the poor grammar and spelling)

This site tells you mostly everything you need to know
https://wpilib.screenstepslive.com/s/3120/m/7885
But you will need some basic java knowledge.

Re: First time java programming

Do realize that is the 2014 directions. The roborio will use the eclipse IDE rather than Netbeans. While a lot will be the same, obviously some will be different. For this reason, it might be better to wait a year for the switch. You might look to see if there is a Java beta tester close to you who can show you what will be in use in 2015.

Re: First time java programming

You can use eclipse with the 2014 cRIO (to get a head start on using eclipse for 2015).

We have been using eclipse for Java FRC development since 2012, even though it was never officially supported by FIRST.

Here are the instructions to set up eclipse for 2014 FRC.
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=110420

Note: Setting up eclipse will be much easier in 2015, now that FRC is providing official support for it.

I am also one of the many beta tester, so if you have any particular questions, let us know.

Regards,
Kevin
