Inco 718 bar stock comes in 2 forms, 5662 (solution) and 5663 (precipitation hardened), you can machine it in the hardened condition without subsequent heat treatment. We do it all the time on jet engine hardware.

My ring came in a couple days ago:
http://imgur.com/x7q8KOA It's pretty hard to see the palladium band in the picture, but it's there. It's a bit easier to see in real life (though it blends in a bit with the inconel) |
