FRC + FRC GameSense = Behind the Lines

Blog Date: Wednesday, September 17, 2014 - 09:41

This is Hannah, FRC Program Coordinator, taking over the FRC Blog with some important news!
FIRST Robotics Competition and FRC GameSense are excited to announce that they are working together on a web broadcast: Behind the Lines. If you were familiar with the Ask an Expert calls, this is the newest version. The purpose of this series is to make key knowledge and resources available to the community through an engaging hour-long show. The first half will be a presentation by the invited experts, followed by a 30 minute Q & A session on the topic. Each Behind the Lines session will be hosted by the GameSense Crew.

To submit your questions in advance for any Behind the Lines broadcast, you can email btl@frcgamesense.com. You can also Tweet questions to @FRCGameSense with #FRCBTL. The recordings will be available afterwards on the Behind the Lines page.

Here’s the current schedule:
Wednesday, September 24 at 8pm (ET)

“Things Every FRC Team Should Know”
Experts:

Glenn Lee, Mentor of FRC Team 359

Collin Fultz, FRC Team Advocate

This session is geared towards Rookie FRC teams or new team members. Topics will include fundraising, budgeting, mentor/parent engagement, and what to expect for the FRC season schedule. This session will highlight resources and other information that are helpful for any FRC team.

Go to frcgamesense.com or the GameSense YouTube Channel to watch!

Wednesday, October 15 at 8pm (ET)- tentative

“Introduction to the 2015 Control System”

This session will highlight the new features found in the 2015 Control System. You will also be able to ask questions from a panel of experts that assisted in designing the new system. More details will be posted shortly!
We’re working on the rest of the season, but it will be posted to the Behind the Lines page as soon as it’s ready! If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please email btl@frcgamesense.com.

Finally, I want to extend many thanks to the GameSense Crew: Ty Tremblay, Francis O’Rourke, Navid Shafa, Evan Morrison, Stephanie Morrison, and David McLaughlin. They have graciously donated their time and talents to create a seriously cool resource for teams.

We are celebrating this exciting collaboration with a round of corndogs! But none for you- sorry.

See you at Behind the Lines!

Hannah

PS- If you’re wondering where the name “Behind the Lines” comes from, it’s a reference to the phrase “Drivers behind the lines!” that you often hear at competitions.
Quick Note From Frank

I am really excited about this collaboration between FIRST HQ and the top-notch FRC GameSense crew! We’ve got so many creative, skilled, and motivated folks participating in FRC that this kind of HQ-Community collaboration makes sense in many situations- and my personal experience with the GameSense crew in particular has been wonderful.

You’ll likely be seeing more of this kind of thing. As an additional example, remember the FRC Community Tools Developers Conference we announced last month. Look for an update on that initiative soon. I believe this kind of HQ-Community collaboration is the future of FRC. Expect more experimentation.

Re: [FRC Blog] FRC + FRC GameSense = Behind the Lines

I'd like to say for the entire GameSense crew that we are really excited to be working with FIRST on this new show. FRC's Ask an Expert was something we looked at and learned from when we started working on GameSense, and we're looking forward to putting our spin on the concept.

The show format will feature the guest presenters with two or three members of GameSense. During the first half of the show, the guests will present on the show's topic, with the second half of the show focused on answering questions from the community. Just like GameSense, episodes will be an hour long so everyone can get the info they need without having to commit a large amount of time during their busy week. The episodes will also be available on youtube shortly after the broadcast.

The first episode is titled "Things Every FRC Team Should Know," and premieres on Wednesday, September 24th at 8 PM ET. Our guests will be Glenn Lee from team 359 and Colin Fultz, FRC Team Advocate.

We owe a big thank you to the people at FIRST, especially Hannah and Frank for giving us this opportunity and working with us to make this show happen!

To keep up to date on Behind the Lines, be sure to check out the page on FIRST's website, and follow us on Twitter and Facebook. The show premieres on Wednesday, September 24th at 8 PM ET on twitch.tv/FRCGameSense or frcgamesense.com!
