Rookie team 5458 Digital Minds starts fundraising effort

A new rookie team in Woodland, CA (not Woodland Hills) is using GoFundMe as one source for fundraising. Please feel free to distribute this request or put it on your social media page. Thanks

http://www.gofundme.com/DigitalMinds

OUR BACKGROUND:
Digital Minds Team was born August 26, 2014 when 1678 Citrus Circuits from Davis introduced their passion for robotics to the Pioneer and Woodland High School students in Woodland, CA.

Digital Minds started off with 11 students; however, within a month this number increased to 17 students and still growing. The team is mainly composed from low-income, migrant and first generation students. We currently have 4 females and 13 males in the team. Digital Minds is composed of 5 freshman, 6 sophomores, 2 juniors and 4 seniors. The members in our team come from different backgrounds; 64.7 percent are Latinos, 5.88 percent are African Americans, 5.88 percent are White and 23.5 percent are another race.

Being part of a robotics team will increase students’ understandings in robotics, technology, mechanical devices and computer programming, as well as improve their social and leadership skills.

WE MADE IT TO SEMI-FINALS:
“…barely weeks after coming together as a team — Digital Minds performed brilliantly at the Elk Grove competition, making it all the way through the qualifying matches and quarterfinals and into the semifinals.” (Davis Enterprise)

Digital Minds was ecstatic! This was the first time competing against champion and national winners. Everyone was experienced and knowledgeable about robotics. Digital Minds only had a few days to prepare due the lack of resources needed to get started. Digital Minds borrowed a robot from 1678 Citrus Circuits of Davis and under their wing we were winning game after game until we were eliminated in our third match out of three. The team had done great for a rookie team.

Digital Minds can’t wait to continue competing and hopes to make it to the Championship competition in St. Louis. This is where you come in!

WHY WE NEED $$
We need help with robotic expenses. That means we need tools, computers, machines, programing equipment, mechanical equipment, food to fuel our robotics team and team shirts of course! We are grateful to all those who donate. We thank you from the bottom of our robotic hearts. J

Thank You.
If you would like to keep up with our progress please forward your information to Yesenia Ramirez at Yesenia@yolofrc.org or Monica Moncada at mmoncada@yolofrc.org

We look forward to sharing our successes with you in the near future. Continue Reading >>
