Re: Scary FIRST stories?

Our drivers forgot to remove the safety device in our shooter before our second match at the Southington district. Needless to say, our entire shooter winch was destroyed (although we retained the #1 spot for like 6 rounds) and we weren't able to shoot until right before elims. It was scary trying to build another winch in between matches, especially because it was such a unique piece.

Wait... Isn't a safety device supposed to prevent things like this from happening.

Re: Scary FIRST stories?

Our driver got hit by our robots catapult an inch below the temple. The robot had run out of air to release the cataput so after the match was over we had a ticking time bomb of kinetic energy waiting to go off. Of coarse the only time our drive had his face over robot it decided to go off. Luckily he was ok, but we did have to disable our catapult for the next three rounds while the safety inspectors figured out what to do if that happened again, that put us back in the rankings. We went on to be the first pick from the team that we pick at our first districts. We went on to be finalists at the event.

Re: Scary FIRST stories?

I know it's past Halloween, but whatever- this year at Bash at the Beach I was driving up the field to go play defense and I got sandwiched between two robots and was up on two wheels. Somehow when the two robots backed away I ended up on 6 wheels again too close to tipping over!

When those of us first infected awoke on Saturday feeling like zombies but better, we were horrified to hear and see who else had fallen ill. All teams were affected. Some drive teams were completely sidelined.

The true horror is that with drivers and human players sidelined, we will never know who really won that year.
I thought it was pretty clearly pinned down on the fact that everyone was reaching in the coolers/ice buckets for soft drinks at the team social, allowing the virus to spread easily.

As for the ultimate winners, 33 was the best team all weekend. There's no disputing that. The best team won, without a doubt.

Re: Scary FIRST stories?

This past year at St. Louis, a couple of my friends and I were late for a team photo, so I tried to take a shortcut down an emergency stairway that I thought I had used beforehand.

We ended up on the street outside the building after coming through a "no reentry door." Luckily there were (technically inaccessible) doors coming from one of the practice fields, and also luckily some kids from one of the teams we're particularly friendly with were able to let us back in.

I can't even imagine the repercussions that would have come with us walking all the way around the building, missing the team photo, and having to explain to mentors where we were.

When you pop a wheelie on another robot and your battery completely falls out during a match. We are the big orange catcher robot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJE5EgTOVVM
And at the same regional, this was a fairly scary collision between team 3937, and 16. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQx3fFzBrRI
