Les Miserables

Has anyone here acted in the Les Miserables Musical? I play several different roles this year in it, and would like to know if anyone else here has any experience there.

Also, how much do you like the musical?

No experience with being in it (especially since I sing off key) but I really love the musical! What parts did you play? I think one of the best scenes in the musical was Javert's death scene and how they made it look like he was falling a great distance.

I've seen it on Broadway three times. I have it memorized, more or less.

...if that's any indication.

I play Fauchelevent (the dude that gets trapped under the cart), Sailor 3 (Even stokers need a little stoke!), Prisoner 5 (How long, O Lord, before you let me die?), Combfrere (We fight here in her name...) and Sentry 1 (Platoon of snipers, advancing toward the barricade!!!!). Otherwise, I'm a voice in every male choral part. I have every part memorized, too, even the parts for Eponine and Fantine. I have only been familiarized with this play since ahbout three months ago, and on Sunday I went to Broadway to watch it done the RIGHT way. I'm a total Les Miz nut now, lol.

Mark,

I first saw it at the Barbican in the fall of 1985. I have seen it every year since. It is the most complete musical I have ever seen. "I Dreamed a Dream", "Who am I", "Castle on a Cloud", are all outstanding. My all time favorite is, "Bring Him Home".

Awwww ... I like Castle on a Cloud. My father, uncle, and cousin introduced me to musicals when I was five or so and I've loved them ever since! I've never actually seen a show on Broadway, though (that whole living in Michigan/Wisconsin thing). Oh well, someday!

Freshman year, the band did their show with the Les Mis music. And of couse, I was in the band then, so I know the music to it. Now if only I can remember what happened in the actual play itself...

I love Les Miz! I have the soundtrack on CDs, and am addicted to "Empty Chairs" and "At the End of the Day." It's currently showing at the local performing arts high school (first time they gave it to a school! For once, Las Vegas does something significant in the way of arts!) I'm going to see it this weekend . . .

Can't wait!

I tried out for Valjean, seeing as I do have the strongest singing voice in the school (no, that's not just a self assesment, many, and by many I mean at least 40 or so, have told me to my face). The whole bloody show was precasted, though-Javert and Valjean especially. I lost Marius to a senior, because, well, he's a senior. Not that I have anything against them, just that it's kind of unfair to give it to a senior over a *gasp* junior because they won't be back again next year. Yes, Empty Chairs (The Cafe Song) is great. I love it, right along with At the End of the Day. I actually had to drop out of the latter, though, because I have far too much running around to do between the Cart Crash and the next one I'm in.

Now here's a question, did your school let you do the Master of the House song? It's the funniest song from the play and I think it's needed to cut back some of the tragedy of the story, but the lyrics are a little questionable... I ask because my high school wouldn't let us do Hair (due to some of the song lyrics and they were afraid we would copy the nudity at the end of the Broadway version).

Well i don't know the three spoken words but I do have to share my experience........In 6th grade I went to see it on Broadway and one of the guys in our group had a friend who was acting in it, so we all got to go on a backstage tour of the show! It was so great!!!! Definitely worth waking up at 4:30 for! And it has some of my favorite music.
