Looking for SF Bay Area to join as a volunteer/mentor

Hi all, long time no see

(apparently my last visit was on 12-09-2012)

I've moved to California a couple of months ago and I'm living in the center of San Francisco.

The 2015 season is coming up and I just realized how important FIRST and robotics have been to me, so that's why I'm looking for a team to A) watch the kickoff with them and B) possibly volunteer/mentor (and I say volunteer because I fear I might be too rusty to be of any help from the start and I'm kind of hoping to "relearn" forgotten skills of robotics ).

The closer to SF, the better. I'll see what I can do about travelling to San Jose to watch the regional.

Thanks and happy holidays,
Nir

The best thing to do is contact the FIRST Senior Mentor for your area. You can find her contact information here. http://www.usfirst.org/community/vol...mentor-program She can connect you with a team near you that could use your help.

For volunteer opportunities sign up in VIMS here https://my.usfirst.org/FIRSTPortal/L...IMS_Login.aspx create an account there, complete the screening application and once that is completed you can find an event and offer yourself for the roles you are interested in.

Re: Looking for SF Bay Area to join as a volunteer/mentor

You have 5 teams in San Francisco to check out. 2 are rookies, 2 are second year teams, and Lowell high school has a few years. On the peninsula to the south of you there are a number of young teams that you should check out. All teams are different and you should spend the effort to fine the best fit for you and the team. Go to the FIRST web site and use your zip code in the team search section. Start today as many teams will shut down over winter break. Good luck.

Which is why I suggest contacting the Senior Mentor for the area, she is likely to know which team has the greater need.

Re: Looking for SF Bay Area to join as a volunteer/mentor

I know 766 is looking for mentors. I think the mentor base is very young close to your age. they are based out of menlo park/ atherton. If your looking for a team where you can instantly shine in, 766 fits the bill. They have decent money, a small machine shop with a small CNC mill. They did a practice bot last year. They almost have it together.

they are also very close to the NASA field. So 766 gets to practice with 254, 971, 846 and etc.

PM me and I get you in touch with the other 766 mentors.

Re: Looking for SF Bay Area to join as a volunteer/mentor

Hey there!
I'm from 4159, we're Cardinalbotics based at Lowell High School. You can pm me and I can put you in touch either with our team or the 2 rookie teams who will definitely need help this year. We're also hosting a kickoff event at our school and I can hook you up with that link. As for regionals, so far looks like 4 of us are going to Sacramento, and teams 5700 and 4159 will be at Silicon Valley.
