roboRIO manual possible confusion

On page 9 of the manual, it reads:
Quote:
Note The NI roboRIO contains an internal 120 W termination resistor between L (GRN) and H (YEL).
It appears that this "W" means ohm based off of this wikipedia entry:
Quote:
Where the [symbol] font is not supported, a W is displayed instead ("10 W" instead of "10 Ω", for instance). As W represents the watt, the SI unit of power, not resistance, this can lead to confusion.
Just thought this would be useful to know

richwong is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: roboRIO manual possible confusion

Why didn't they just write out "ohm"?

Re: roboRIO manual possible confusion

FYI: W DOES NOT mean ohm, it is a font error

Re: roboRIO manual possible confusion

W still stands for watt. It showed a W in this instance because of a font error. Since the ohm symbol was not supported by the font, a W was put in its place.

just to be clear, W stands for Watt, not ohm.

Re: roboRIO manual possible confusion

jnicho15,
Can you show which manual you are looking at for this info? If it is a pdf, it is likely you do not have the greek font loaded and have selected an option where Adobe inserts what it thinks is the correct symbol.

Heh - please don't dissipate 120W in roboRIO in any form.

That is a typo/font issue. I'll get a request in to fix this.

Chris,
Mike linked to a 120 watt resistor with fins on it.

Yup - pretty sure that's not included with roboRIO.

Re: roboRIO manual possible confusion

Is it against the rules to smear heat transfer paste all over the RoboRIO?
