Playbooks, Strategy Aids?

Is anyone out there making a playbook of sorts with different strategies for each robot combination? My old team had one last year, but because the game is 2v2 it's a little bit more complicated to maximize the points...

Anyone doing this besides me?

we'll like have 'plays'.. maybe, maybe not a book.. i personally have the tendency to lose less things permenantly in brain than carrying in hand...

2v2 is much easier for strategy... there's a clear objective for both teams (i.e. win) in the alliance that usually brings easier negotiations and better on the fly adaptation...

if everyone does what is necessary to win.. it's just a matter of making some cool point maximizing or........ and focusing on winning the match..

last year was pretty ridiculous for 'strategy' there was basically a way to play the game well.. and it was a matter of going out and trying to make everyone do relatively that while doing much math in their heads.

thank god for hail marys ;-)

and yay for strategy! it's one of the best parts of the game!!!

never underestimate the shwartz! wait, that's not right.

Ok, dumb luck is the best kind of luck. No thinking required.

No, that's not it. Ok, got it.
Dumb luck is better than no luck at all.

Build a score optimizer

We built a real time scoring/optimizing system. Haven't practiced with it yet, but the concept is simple.

dumb luck is certainly better than no luck, which is certainly better than bad luck...

anyways, we aren't actively planning out a play book at all. we may start making one later in that month gap between Shipping Day and competition....

We are working on something like that to0. We are just about completed with it.

It would be interesting to see how your's and our's compare. (too bad we will probably NOT be in the same regional....we are in the New Haven, CT regional)

They are probably very similar. We built USB hand controllers for 3 people to use to describe the locations of objects and tell how many balls are in the goals. These are attached to a laptop which displays the information for the strategy officer and displays the optimal placement of the objects assuming you can make 1,2,3 etc changes to the field. 3 HUD's are attached to the laptop over RS-232 to display current score (not multiplied) and the current count of balls in each goal. We are making our robot drivable by one pilot so the rest of the team can concentrate on strategy. The game will be won in the last 30 seconds by the team who can arrange the playing field optimally.

Ours really isn't. We have one person who will be using it and everybody else will be driving and other tasks.

We have several sets of switches that cover scoring possibilites on the field (robots, goals, balls in goals, etc). The box is not connected to the laptop and is controlled by a Basic Stamp II, with output heading to an LCD.
