Coopertition Stack Strategy

If coopertition stacks are awarded immediately upon completion, could you then lift that stack back up and set it back down. Would that then be another 40 points if they are awarded upon completion?

In the case of the robot we are designing, each tote is lifted up separately, so if you just lifted those up separately and placed them back down on top of each other again, would that be considered another stack? (I mention this as I don't believe simply lifting up four totes together [NOT separately] and putting them back down is going to count)

From the manual:
Unlike other points, which are awarded at either the end of the AUTO or TELEOP, points for a COOPERTITION SET or COOPERTITION STACK are awarded instantly upon successful completion.

Blue box in section 3.1.2.2:

Quote:
ALLIANCES can earn points for either a COOPERTITION STACK or a COOPERTITION SET in a MATCH, but not both.
Note the use of singular "a" stack or set.

Re: Coopertition Stack Strategy

I believe the rule about awarding the points at the time of completion is intended to ensure that a team still gets coopertition set points if they have built a coopertition set but disassemble it to make a coopertition stack, and are unable to complete the stack.

Re: Coopertition Stack Strategy

They are only awarded at the time so that the totes can be used continuously. However, is an alliance allowed to take possession of more than their allotted number of totes from the step?

All of the gray totes and recycling bins on the step are fair game for both alliances. I bet high-level gameplay will involve teams battling over the center totes in order to get a high score.

As for the yellow totes, I don't see any reason to take them away from the step, since they are not worth any points except for the coopertition points.

So, to answer your question, yes, teams can take any amount of totes from the step. In fact, none of the totes are assigned to an alliance, it's all free game.

Re: Coopertition Stack Strategy

I dont think there will be that much battle over the center totes, since there are plenty of totes on the field and you could always get more through the tote chute, maybe the cans but not the totes.

Definitely the CONTAINERS, almost definitely not the TOTES.

The TOTES on the STEP may cause some penalty-getting headaches for overzealous CONTAINER grabbers, though.

^This.

The robot you build to qualify and the robot you build to win finals are different. But, in either case, you're going to want to be able to at least get the recycling containers off of the step.

Arguably this is where you WANT to put them. As you mention, after Auto completes, the only value they have is as coop points. Even if you don't get the points, putting them on the step clears them out of your end of the field.

Yes it is, but this is where you need some power. You didn't say this, but there's a lot of "you don't need a strong drivetrain this year" or "this is the year for mecanums" and such going around. It's fair game, yes, but if you get into a tug of war with another robot that grabs an item off the step, you had better be able to control yourself (+1 to pfrievald). This includes:
a. Not being so top heavy that your opponent can pull you across the step <G18>.
b. Be well controlled so you don't allow anything to fully cross off the step into your opponent's side of the field <G24>.
c. Use a mechanism that doesn't damage the game piece if you end up in the tug of war <G16>.
